Looking at the manual for Central Scotland I note that Platform 7 has a platform length of 200m. Is this still the same today? Reason for asking is that I have noted the following: - 5W73 ECS from Eastfield to Queen St. platform 7 consists of stock for the following 2Y73 for Westerton, 2J82 for Cumbernauld and 1A47 to Dyce. Looking at the working diagrams from 2011 this consists of 1 off Class 170,1 off Class 158 and 2 off Class 156's. Using the Sim Sig Timetable Train Lengths chart gives a total of 209m. The 170 is for the Dyce service, the 2 Class 156 go to Westerton and the Class 158 going to Cumbernauld. Does anyone know if the Platform lengths have changed, is the Train Lengths table slightly out or is it something else that I am not aware of. Any help would be appreciated. Geoff Log in to reply |

Lengths came from scale plans I recall I may have added a few more to allow for short-stopping. Rules of the Route says the usable capacity is 192m with a max 8 cars so assuming the 170 is a 3-car (believe that's all ScotRail run) the combination you refer to seems impossible. Peter, Thanks for the response. The information does seem a bit conflicting I must admit between the Haymarket set diagrams and the Corkerhill set diagrams. Looking at those diagrams from 2011, 5W73 was formed by sets HA730 (170), HA853 (158), CK203 (156) and CK206 (156). However CK203 only ran until 23/09/2011 (the diagram started from Fort William after that date) and CK206 ran from 26/09/2011 (it started from Oban prior to that date.) Therefore 5W73 should only be 8 cars (170+158+156). Edit. Geoff beat me to it. Planotransitophobic! Sorry, yeah 7 cars. Been pouring over the EGIP Strategic Review which keeps going on about 8 car trains - I may be slightly obsessed with 8 car trains!

There might be some artistic license in P7, I think we added a meter or two to fit in the 1980's sleeper and HST. In reality the signal had a rearward viewable aspect (!) Bill Log in to reply |
