How often would you expect to see signals cleared from both ends of the platform?

signal showing yellow is displaying its most restrictive aspect, plated as a repeater, so can only show Y or G.
I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

I thought that as well, but the signal number isn't suffixed with 'R' or 'RR'...?

Platform 4 at Stevenage regularly has greens displaying at both ends, for trains that terminate and go back to Moorgate. Ive never seen the down signal held at danger whilst the up signal is cleared and it is a controlled signal.

Doesn't have to be, there are many, many examples, especially on newer installations, where a distant has a different number to the following signal - the new split distant at stockley bridge crossovers (SN312) on the GW at West Drayton being the most recent/local example coming to my mind

distants in mechanical installations will only show as R or RR if they are automatic. otherwise they will display a separate number of the plate, as they are worked by a separate lever.

so you could have S1 (distant) S2 (home) S3 (Section)
or
S2R (distant clears when 2 and 3 are off) S2 (Home) S3 (Section)

as far as i see can distants in newer installations are recieving separate numbers.

The standard these days is to give the signal its own number (often numbered 2 less than the signal it repeats) and the signal plate gets a white triangle which can be seen in the video above.

No real reason to restrict signals clearing from both ends of the platform.

The triangle symbol on the signal plate tells you it is a Distant/Repeater signal, therefore cannot display a red.

This used to happen in my days in Bristol Panel. We had a train spilt on platform 5 or 7. Having divided, both portions would depart at the same time - the front bit would carry on down towards Taunton and the rear would go out the other end to Portsmouth. The only problem with having the signals off at both ends of the platform was that the train describer would get confused and both trains would lose their TD.

At doncaster I've seen a train arrive into platform 3a from the north to depart towards london then another arrived into 3b from shefield departing northwards, and the signals at both ends were off at once then, so it can happen, though i guess this is a bit of an unusual case as one end of the platform wasa ccesed by a crosover in the middle and there was a central isgnal preventing the train from sheffield going back onto the other train.
