Some information for anyone from Ireland thinking about travelling across for the meet:

To fly from Dublin to London Luton/Stanstead/Gatwick is €100.
To fly from Dublin to Birmingham is €60 + train cost to London.

Oviously price will rise as you get closer to the date.

Ferry plus train is £43 single. This is a turn up and go ticket and can be bought at any rail station (the fare to other places may be less). Irish Ferries charge 52 euros, plus 6 euros if you buy on the day. They also do through fares from anywhere in Ireland. Google "SailRail".

Timings mean you'd need to plan to stay overnight before and after.

Thanks Clive,

I hadn't got around to checking ferry prices yet so this information is very helpful.

John:

I've booked my place for me and Natalie

If anyone wants a place to crash, I have room in Oxford for 2 people but bear in mind I'm catching a coach to/from the meet (at £20 for returns it's a bargain compared to FGW :P)

What Oxford to Paddington return for £13?

Bear in mind there are 2 of us:
OXF - PAD: 2 x DIS @ £15.50 each for an Off Peak Day Return (£31.00)

Oxford - Victoria (Coach Stn): 2 x CON @ £13.00 each for a 48hr Return (£26.00)

I save £5 that I can use for beer :cheer:

Or you can get Advance singles both way, which using your railcards comes out at £17.20 for the two of you. Saving you an extra £8.80

Note that the LU bit has not been factored in and comparison with Travelcard.

Looking at FGW's Web site does not seem to have many cheap fares for the 13th (yet) but on the previous Saturday (6th) you can buy Oxford to Liverpool Street tickets (not TC but one-shot Z1) for £12.50 depending on the train. Maybe the full range is not yet loaded up for 13th.

We've not passed the booking horizon for the 13th yet, which is why no advance tickets are showing.

Some TOCs (e.g. EC) are already booking to Sunday 14/07/13 so it is probably imminent for the other TOCs.

They are now according to FirstScotrail's site (don't ask).

£6.25 Oxford to Liverpool St inclusive (pp e/w with discount).

£18.30 Travelcard.

Somewhat last minute heads up to anyone coming from 'up north' who is perhaps looking to make a weekend of it....

Cropped screenshot of an eMail I received from East Coast

Link shown on the image (I don't think I could make the image itself a hyperlink(?)) basically just leads to http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/special-offers/save-a-third-on-east-coast-train-travel-between-london-and-yorkshire---/.

Also, just to advise that the information in my previous post above still stands, but now as of 13/05/2013.

Got my tickets booked. FGW were charging a fair bit for route via Bath, SWT to Waterloo was cheaper but not that cheap.

Nearly booked £10 each way tickets on National Express however I remembered about MegaTrain and found £12 each way tickets from Bath to Waterloo. It does mean I'd need a return from Trowbridge to Bath, passing through Trowbridge again, but is still the cheapest rail option with that included.

The coach was a last resort really, Trowbridge only has one coach service a day, and takes over 3 hours to do Trowbridge to Victoria Coach Station!

I am thinking of coming up from Bristol but am unlikely to do it by FGW so I may use Megabus.

In consideration of that:

- if I decided to attend for the Sunday meetup only (the visits), how early would I need to be at the first port of call, and what time would we expect to be done by?

- has anyone else used Megabus from Bristol to London recently and, if so, how much did it cost?

It says 10 to 11 on the event sign-up (First FCC train gets in to KX at 10.01 so I've not applied).

Timings on the page are noted as approximate but more importantly, places are not guaranteed yet. I'd hate for you to arrange a trip to London on the Sunday only to find that there aren't enough places. Please don't book any travel until details are confirmed.

Heads up to anyone staying in London overnight or coming back to London on the Sunday for the technical visit... St. Albans South signal box will be open on Sunday 14th from 2pm 'til 5pm if you'd like to visit it - something which I'd highly recommend as I personally have found it to be most enthralling, and even learnt a few new things too! It's located about a stones throw away from St. Albans (City) station (Midland Main Line).

Hi guys - a very quick one from me.

I sent an email about offline payment, but haven't had an email back. Just didn't want to lose out on the chance to come to the meeting on Saturday.

All the best.

Nick.

Just to make sure that nothing is sliding down the cracks, to whom did you send the e-mail? Certainly there is no problem about attending the meet as there is still plenty of room.
