Hello all,

I've decided to make use of the platform working book from early 2005 to make a Brighton 2005 TT. The closest NRT I have though is December 2005-May 2006. Does anyone have the early 2005 or maybe remembers the services?

What I'd like to know is what the main pattern was between Brighton - Lewes. In the 2005-2006 TT, All Eastbourne/Seaford/Ore/Lewes services called at every station between Brighton and Lewes, however the odd AM service to Lewes called at Falmer and Lewes only. The Ashford's were also non stop to Lewes.

However according to the platform workbooks, the Ashford's did shuttles to Hastings with one '1H' diagram which was more likely Hastings DEMU 1001. There are Brighton to Hasting's services though diagrammed for 4 car 377's. However a year later these were Ore stoppers.

So would these Brighton - Hasting's be fast to Lewes instead of stopping everywhere? Was there the odd Lewes shuttle that was fast/semi-fast?
If the Hastings did stop everywhere, if I've worked it out right, that gives London Road, Moulescoombe and Falmer a service every 10 minutes, or 6tph in each direction, pretty good going if that's right!

If anyone has any info from early 2005 in that section it would be appreciated :)

Cheers,

James.

This website may give you some info, although it starts from 2006, but does have unit diagrams & station working books in pdf format & covers most of the TOCs.

I may have some of the Southern (public) timetables and some of the diagrams from around that time. I'll have a hunt out for you James

Gareth

Hi James,

I had wanted to do something similar with the end of the slammers era but upon checking I only have Southern station working books (2005) which I downloaded from PRAR (see link in Pascal's post) but have only got timetables from 2006.

I have a East and West Coastway timetable dated 23 May to 11 December 2004 which is probably close to 2005

East Coastway services - Platform 8
Brighton - Seaford services (2FXX) left at 12 and 42 past calling at London Road 15 & 45, Moulsecoomb 17 & 47, Falmer 21 & 51, Lewes 28 & 58
Brighton - Hastings services (2DXX) left at 24 and 54 past calling at London Road 27 & 57, Moulsecoomb 29 & 59, Falmer 33 & 03, Lewes 39 & 09
(The 24 past Brighton to Hastings service called at Polegate, Eastbourne, Bexhill, St Leonards Warrior Square and Hastings after Lewes).

Seaford - Brighton services (2FXX) left Lewes 14 & 44, Falmer 21 & 51, Moulsecoomb 24 & 54, London Road 27 & 57 arriving Brighton 30 & 00
Hastings - Brighton services (2DXX) left Lewes 59 & 29, Falmer 06 & 36, Moulsecoomb 09 & 39, London Road 12 & 42 arriving Brighton 15 & 45

Seford services were operated by Class 377/3's (3 Cars) the Hastings services operated by CIG's and VEP's

West Coastway services - Platforms 1,2 & 3
00 past Brighton - Littlehampton, Hove 03, Aldrington 05, Portslade 08
20 past Brighton - West Worthing, Hove 24, Aldrington 26, Portslade 28
30 past Brighton - Portsmouth Harbour, Hove 33, Portslade 36
40 past Brighton - West Worthing, Hove 43, Aldrington 45, Portslade 48
57 past Brighton - Basingstoke, Hove 00, Shoreham 07 (South West Trains, some services continued to Reading and the last diesel train went Salisbury and the last electric to London Waterloo and all left Brighton on platform 1 *From memory*)

Hope this helps start things off

Pascal - I may have got the workbook from that site actually, as it's the same as the one laying on my external hard drive. Thank you for the link though :)

Gareth - Thank you very much for your time looking though :)

Copping - Thank you very much for your time in typing that up! When you say Slammers for the Hasting's, what year was that? According to the workbook for early 2005, they are all diagrammed for 4 car 377's. Were these vice 377?

The Brighton Main Line isn't much different for times compared to my 2005-2006 NRT, so I can work off that, but the Coastway line seems different so I appreciate you information :). I have also done a Class 421 from Brighton to Portsmouth one friday after getting the Wessex Trains Fridays Only Bristol to Brighton, behind a Class 31.
I forget if it was 2004 or 2005 though, would there possibly have been one in early 2005? Again the workbook has them all penciled in for 377/4s or /3s.

Thank you guys for you time :D

2005 was last year the slammers were being replaced by the 377's, thinking about it there were a few diagrams involving slammers, train planning used to try berth them overnight. If they ended up at Lovers Walk they were then taken out of service and send to the scrapyard.

The 07:17 Eastbourne to London Bridge service was a slammer as the empties in the morning from Brighton used to wake me up as it went over the crossover in Polegate.

I've got the June - December 2005 book and I cannot find any services that are not all stops between Brighton <> Lewes. (Except the 05:57 ex Lewes (05:37 ex Eastbourne) on a Sunday Morning which is non-stop).
There were typically 4tph between Brighton and Lewes xx:12 & xx:42 to Seaford; xx:24 & xx:54 to Hastings.

Hi James

I've had a bit more of a further look and have found the diagrams of the last few CIGs & VEPs dated June - Dec 2005. If these will be helpful to you let me know.

Flymo - Yes I had the tph wrong, it was counted when I was working on the 0700-0800 times when the Eastbourne's ran, before the Lewes, Seaford and Hastings cycle started. Thank you very much for confirming that all trains stop there :)

Gareth - that might actually become a great help yes if you have any to hand :)
