Permission for late-running trains 30/04/2014 at 12:29 #59806

Quite often, a shunter will phone up for permission to send train, only for Simsig to immediately declare the train is late.

Could the code be changed so that the delay dice-roll is done before the Sim starts asking permission to send the train?

Yes, that comes across as really unprototypical.

Alternatively, to avoid risking an ACOA, after the signaller has had time to set a route, the shunter could ring in a second time to say said train is now delayed, the options being when to tell him to phone again and whether or not to replace the entry signal.

to clarify, do you mean, for example you give permission for a train to enter at 10:30 which was booked to depart having had no prior indication of delay which was due out at 10:00, and then get a message "train XYZ will be 30 mins late entering your area", with the train then entering circa 1 min after the call as you would expect.? I have had that one quite often.

or do you mean, as I think Max is interpreting it, that you give permission for a train, which is THEN delayed by 30 mins, and doesnt enter for 30 mins after the call was made? if so I've never come across that.

Hmm, that does better fit my observations for the train that caused me to write this post - so it seems the delay message is itself being delayed. In the case I'm writing about, I had a "304 minute delay" for a train due to enter at 00:00, but which has a rule to wait until another train has left the area (an LE runround at Battersea Yard). Perhaps it would also be useful to suppress delay warnings for trains timed at 00:00?

However, I do still have an inkling that I've had cases where a train is delayed beyond the phone call; I'll investigate and see if that has occurred or if I've just made it up.

It's certainly happened to me on more than one occasion on the default Exeter timetable - just a minor programming glitch.

Or it could be a timetable writer's glitch. For example, in the TT released with the updated Stafford sim, there are a number of occasions when there is a group of trains due to enter from the Power Station, the sim selecting one from the rules set up in the TT. There seems to be some conflict between the various rules and there have been a number of instances reported through this Forum of the shunter's message then no train entry. This can be cured by a re-writing of the rules.
