Hello all,

Off the top of my head I believe UT106R is the number, but anyway it's the new LED searchlight repeater signal at the Westbury end of Trowbridge, which replaced the 2 aspect signal.

Anyway, does anyone by chance know if UT106 itself has changed or is changing? I don't know if it's being worked on, or if it's failed, or if the repeater doesn't work or has changed, but I've noticed recently it's been on yellow for a while.

A train may have passed you say? Well I'm not sure on that as I noticed it from Friday gone. Basically I use that signal on my walk to work to see what I may have just missed, most of the time it's green but I noticed it was Yellow, and it was on the way back too but that could have been a unit. Anyway I jumped into RTT, the last train to go through was at 03:37 to Whatley, I walked over the rail bridge at around 04:50. As far as I know the signal it's repeating is full auto, maybe it's failed?

On Sunday I had to walk past there 4 times at different times of the day, still yellow on all 4 times. The 4th time I suspected a engineering block, but a 158 hammered under the bridge towards Westbury, surely nothing in front of that?

Monday was the same as Friday, yellow but no train was due through at all. I passed there later today at around 0540, there was a HST admittedly recorded as passed at 0532, but it should have been at Westbury by then.

If UT106 has failed and stuck on red, surely it would have been repaired by now? If 106R had failed, how could you tell in the panel, as I understand it the aspects are either green or red in most PSBs.


Just wondered what the scenario might be or if anyone knows what's going on with the signalling down here, as my 'what have my missed' signal is not giving me clues anymore :lol:

If it has failed, which sounds possible from your description, then you would not know on the panel.

Only way of finding out would be if a diligent driver reported something like "the last five times I've been past that signal it has been yellow, when it is normally green". They wouldn't report it for one or two occurances.

Other slight possibility is if there are a lot of trains losing time through there and someone in Control notices that there is a minute or two being dropped on every train, and initiates enquiries as to why.

I did wonder if UT106 was being replaced and was 'out' but don't think it doesn't take 4 days to do! I see yes it would rely on the driver, being a repeater you don't need to authorize to proceed at danger or anything but as you say a loss it time would be noted.

I don't think performance time would be looked at to be honest, I believe the TSR in the Yarnbrook area (not far past 10) is still from last year, so it's pretty much expected to loose a bit of time, as some services do because of the TSR
