Hello,

I was wondering, if it's possible to implement the "sort by" function associated with 2 new options, example:

Actual:

Sort By:

1 - IDentity
2 - DEParture/Entry Time
3 - Entry Location
4 - Exit Location
5 - UID

Proposed:

Sort By:

1 - IDentity
2 - DEParture/Entry Time
3 - Entry Location
4 - Exit Location
5 - UID
6 - Activities
7 - Train Types

6 - Activities:

The Proposal is to sort trains by Activities in the same order as "Trip Activity Editor" Menu:

6.1 - N: Next
6.2 - DR: Divide Rear
6.3 - DF: Divide Front
6.4 - J: Joins
6.5 - PS: Platform Share
6.6 - DCR: Drop Coaches at Rear
6.7 - DCF: Drop Coaches at Front
6.8 - DER: Detach Engine new Rear
6.9 - DEF: Detach Engine new Front

7 - Train Types:

The Proposal is to sort trains by Train Types in the same order as "Train Types Editor" Menu:

7.1 - /#@: Special Characters
7.2 - 0-9: Numeric Crescent Order
7.3 - A-Z: Alphabetic Crescent Order

Regards, Open to discussion.
Thiago.

How would you want it sorted? By the first activity the train ever does, or somehow else? And what would it be good for (with which real life scenario would it help you)?

A: All trains with "N:" first, then all trains with "DR:" and so on.

A: Same as previous answer.

A: That function will be helpful to find Joins and Divides more faster, and get an easy and simple classification of activities on the F4.

So, a train both joining something and detaching a loco somewhere on its journey will be listed where? And how will it help you find Joins and Divides?

Logically it would be listed twice. Mabye under headings, with a heading for no activities.

"Passengers for New Lane, should be seated in the rear coach of the train " - Opinions are my own and not those of my employer

Like the rules I guess, was wondering earlier if a filter by rule would be a good idea.

Which is at the same time illogical for a sort - which is merely a reordering of a sequence. So does CTC not want a sort, although he says otherwise?

Not that I'm against a possibility for querying trains doing this or that. Still, with XML timetables, that is already possible with external tools.

Excluding the difficulties in actually ordering these, I am actually rather interested in what you'd use them for! I can't imagine why I'd want to find every train with Join, given that they essentially have nothing in common. For train types, I can see slightly more reason, e.g. if you wanted to replace every incidence of a certain train type, but that would be more easily achieved my modifying the train type itself.

Instead of sorting trains by activity, wouldn't it be make more sense to have add 'List trains with activities' tool in one of the tools tabs? That way trains with multiple activities can be displayed in a more logical way. Displaying them twice in the Train List would make it look like the trains were duplicated, and it wouldn't really be a 'Sort'.

Equally, instead of sorting by train types, do you know that highlighting a Train Type in the Train Types tab and clicking 'Referenced by' will list all trains using that train type?

CTC Thiago's post was a result of trying to sort 1760 odd trains in the Waterloo's 2010 updated TT.

I'll give you a clear example:

1E01 - N: 1S10
1Y01 - N: 1N10
2A05 - N: 1A50
2A07 - N: 1A14

For the Next Service: As you see above, the trains are listed by crescent order. (From the previous service)

2D00 - DR: 2R10 DF: 2F15
2D05 - DR: 2R01 DF: 2F05
2D10 - DF: 2F00 DR: 2R00
2D13 - DF: 2F30 N: 2N17 DR: 2R27
2D15 - DF: 2F20 DR: 2R12
2D02 - DEF: 0D02 N: 5D03 J: 0D03

For the Divide: As you see above, the trains are listed by crescent order. (From the previous service and activity order)

Thiago.

Hello Rick,

I like your idea of 'List trains with activity', I'll just add one thing, if the possibility of that list has the same order organization that i use above.

And about trains with multiple activities we can filter by the FIRST activity, If the trains DEF then J, this train shouldn't be in front of a train that only DEF.

Thiago.
