You have to click on one of the blue buttons when in the process of setting a route, as more than one route permutation is available. Other sims also make use of the feature (Derby, Sheffield & Kings Cross for example).

To set a route, click on signal 358, then one of the blue buttons then the entrance arrow to the designated siding.
