Unable to load Huddersfield saves 08/08/2015 at 11:35 #74894

every time I try to load a save of huddersfield a pop-up appears saying it isn't a valid zip archive, followed by one saying it
isn't a Valid SimSig save file. I've tried this with two separate files now.

running on current Loader with everything installed in the default locations.

any ideas?

Just to put it out there I posted this 6 months ago and haven't any acknowledgement or response as of yet.

As you posted this in the Huddersfield Timetables forum, are you having problems saving timetables or simulations? Do you still have the issue? Can you attach a save?

the issue seems to have resolved itself over time. I used to save games in the format year-game number. eg 1991-1 2009-2 and when I did this with Huddersfield it didn't like it. It's possible a core code update has fixed it. it happened with another couple of sims but again has since disapeared.

I bumped this more out of the fact no response had been made.

The code for saving/loading hasn't changed in the last 6 months.

So you bumped this, not because you were having problems (which nobody else apparently has), but because you wanted to make some sort of point. That's 10-15 minutes of my day gone trying to repeat your issue which wasn't an issue at all. Thanks for that.

I paid for the sim. Spent 4 hours playing then lost it due to an issue with the sim not loading my save. I posted the issue on the forum awaiting a response or acknowledgement from a developer and got nothing at all for several weeks so gave up on huddersfield until recently. My point is how do you think I feel as a customer under that circumstance? You wasted 15 minutes I wasted four hours of play time and waited several weeks hoping there would be a fix for a product I paid for!

I've attached the save files in question. both were saved as normal (the 2015-1 was a seperate test to replicate the results).

upon reloading an error message pops up advising the file is not a valid Zip file. it then crashes the loader. this happened with both these saves, but when I saved a further save (2015) 2 minutes after the 2015-1 it saved ok.

saving on this format has never been an issue before, but seems to be with Huddersfield

Probably because you posted it in the Timetables section when it had nothing to do with timetables. This is not an area I read much as I rarely do the timetables.

Which, as it turned out, was no fix at all because (a) nobody else has had this issue; (b) you said it resolved itself; (c) the code hasn't changed.

I know you have raised genuine bugs before and that's great. But be careful of cry wolf syndrome with this thread.

Thanks for the attachments. Windows reports it as an invalid archive as well, so somewhere along the way something got corrupted. This could quite literally be anything on your machine.

Does this not indicate that there needs to be a more robust process so that a casual acquaintance who buys a sim can report a problem and have it actioned without needing to understand how those in the know categorise their reports?

Particularly since I understand that there is already a bug tracker.... can it not just be opened up to the public, or is there a bunch of proprietary stuff there that's been posted with expectation of "privacy" (for want of a better way of putting it) that would mean it can't be?

Two reasons really. Yes, some stuff we'd like to keep private (such as in-development issues), secondly, generally having a bug tracker open to the public is not a Good Idea. Managing user supplied entries would be nearly a full time job in itself - miscategorisation, (such as this thread), low quality reporting (not enough information requiring user feedback), issues which aren't bugs at all, duplicates, closing out of resolved issues, etc.

One possibility is to have a sub page in the Wiki per simulation that allows users to add entries.
