I understand that at the end of the month the layout is being altered with the cross over at the Farringdon side of the station being removed and a new scissors cross over being installed at the Baker Street side. Does anyone know if the IMR is being used or is a new SER being commissioned.

The signalling will be changed within the existing IMR. Some preparatory work has been done with track replacement over recent weeks, but the remainder of the project will be carried out between 26-30th December, with the layout planned to be operational on 31st.

How often did the existing crossover get used? Secondly how often will the new one get used?

I suspect it's the interlocking code - like on the Vic line were we have VH at Kings Cross.

Baker Street controls from Preston Road (Southbound) to Aldgate East and Tower Hill (ex). Note Edgware Road being on the diagram but this is just an overview as this is controlled by a cabin at that location. It was suppose to come in but it never did - the whole of the met from Amersham/Chesham/Hammersmith to Aldgate East should have gone in but it never did!

The existing crossover was only generally used during engineering works or in service disruption. Normal day-to-day service recovery rarely used this crossover as the moves available will either slow down the eastbound or westbound or both.

The new crossovers will be used on a number of weekends in the first half of next year - with Hammersmith & City line trains reversing from east to west on one platform, and a Metropolitan Line service reversing from the other. Other than that, the new crossovers probably won't get used much more than the old crossover. Unfortunately there are a few "issues" which mean their original intention of being a quick reversing point in an emergency has fallen by the wayside slightly. Consultation with the end user was less than perhaps should have been...

Do you have any closer shots of the panels where the Jubilee used to run? What I don't fully understand is why they put those TVs on the top of the panel, I know they show various platforms but surely in this day and age they are not needed or is the service disruptions that bad and some people can not keep on book.

I suppose the new arrangement will give more flexibility, will the new points be surelocks?

I believe the monitors allow the controllers to confirm the train number of a train sat in the platform (Especially useful when the line controller reforms a service, or an emergency timetable is instigated.). I'm sure metcontrol can correct me if I'm wrong.

The monitors were originally placed there during the period of time when the signalling within the city area (Baker Street to Aldgate) was being installed. There were some problems with train numbers passing from signalling site to signalling site. As headshot119 says, these monitors helped to confirm train numbers.
In recent times, some additional monitors were installed to show the cab fronts of Metropolitan Line trains at Aldgate. During peak times we use "stepping back" of Train Operators to reduce turn-round times. The monitors enable the control centre operators to ascertain if a Train Operator is fully in position before the route is cleared. The Aldgate area has an average window of 27 seconds where disruption can occur before it knocks on to other services.

The position of the monitors means that anyone controlling any of the 3 desks in the control room can see pictures. This is rather than installing a set of monitors to each individual desk.

I bet the program machine for Tower Hill sends the wrong train number sometimes or a train in the wrong turn?

Is that why the laser display board sometimes indicates that the next train is to an unknown destination/passengers to check front of train. Generally I've noticed this on the sub-surface rather than tube lines.

Yeah, Most of the Sub Surface at Earls Court is now done by electronic program machines but the Piccadilly is still operated by manual program machines with rolls.

Programme machines generally don't send train numbers anywhere. That's because they never know the number of the actual train they are dealing with. With programme machines Train Description i.e. destination is king.

I was lead to believe it was the other way round, the Picc being done when T5 opened. They use a train following system.

I have seen these but they show the panel when the Jubilee was under Baker Street, I meant with the Jubilee now gone as your photo shows, you can see that Stanmore has gone totally but from Wembley to Finchley Road it appears to have been left in place but minus the signals.
