Uhm, thread title and headline are very misleading. London Bridge isn't suffering signalling problems or bad weather!

Interesting report though.

I see that the Brighton main line has been partially shut for some rather extensive work, and the BBC piece mentions a junction replacement at Purley.

I couldn't find any details on the work in question, does anyone here have any information on what sort of improvements are made?

No changes, just taking advantage of the festive period to renew all the sets of points at Purley in one hit - the same was done at Stoats Nest a couple of years ago.

Replacing 16/17 set of points on the four running lines just north of Purley station and also replacing a rail bridge about half a mile south of the station. Think the crane for the bridge in due today. I'll try and get down if I have time but with "emergency" gas repairs on one of the diversion routes about 1/4 mile from the bridge the traffic's not been pretty!

Edit: also see the London Reconnections link in Soton's Speed post (above this if newest at bottom) for more info

As far as the rail services go, a compilation of my Gensheet and UKMEMU posts:

London - Gatwick via Streatham fast spur, Sutton and Horsham every 30 minutes is a 7 set cycle (1216 from Victoria is also the 1546). These services meet in platform at Horsham (P3 and P4). As such you get up departures from down side. It was variable but more London from 4 and Gatwick from 3
(RTT not correct for past events as http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/X58728/2015/12/29/advanced was on P3)

Coast -> Redhill services do not use P3 / P4, they use P2 (RTT is correct for the past, RTT&OTT not correct to the future).

The trains are 10 coach due to stopping at Epsom, so there are a good number of 377/3 out and about with 323+311+452, 143+301+322 for example.

The Redhill - Horsham - Littlehampton - split Brighton / (Portsmouth or Southampton) are 8 or 12 car.

From a sim viewpoint busier than normal but it is a clockface so would get tedious after the first hour or two unless gremlins set in.

And the Purley bridge work is now cancelled due to the wind. Just been down for a look, crane has been removed and they are just putting stuff back on trucks. There is a lot of soil to remove from the road where they made a base for the crane.
