Just a heads up for timetablers, theres not much detail in the article but this might provide an interesting alternative timetable for Cowlairs/Cscot with some allowance made for the new layout.

Presumably need trains to enter at Anniesland which is currently not possible in the sim. There's a new connection there which allows trains to run through Queen Street Low Level in a loop. But I agree it would make an interesting timetable.

Realtimetrains has the timetables - just checked GLQ-DEE and GLC-DEE for 21/3/16.

I think the SPT Daytripper I've had stashed away for the last few months might get a day's outing when we get into March/April!

Quick scan and for the ones I've checked, the Edinburgh - Glasgow - Edinburgh services replacing the current GLQ HL - Edinburgh trains are routed into GLQ LL via Anniesland and out via Springburn. Dunblane - Glasgow - Dunblane services seem to be running the other way round (inbound via Springburn, outbound via Anniesland). The longer distances (Aberdeen, Inverness) I've looked at are re-routed to GLC HL via Cumbernauld, Coatbridge Central, Carmyle and Rutherglen.

Lots of fun for anyone wanting to write a TT.

As I understand it, the plan is for all trains from the the E & G main line (2 x per hour), and from Stirling (also 2 x per hour), is to take the circle anticlockwise (only) via Anniesland, run through Hyndland and Partick, then eastbound (only) through Queen Street Low Level, and then back via Duke Street and Springburn.

I questioned this, but the reasoning is that the circle in this direction can be done with the minimum of crossing moves at the Hyndland junctions and at Bellgrove. There will be crossing moves at Cowlairs East and West junctions, but these junctions are very much less busy.

It will be interesting to see how the theory survives contact with reality!

Routes I quoted below were taken from RTT timings for 23/03/16. Lots could change before then.

I suppose that, in the absence of the Anniesland entry point, you could use Bellgrove Junction entry point for trains in both directions where necessary? Failing that, what if yoiu used Westerton as the entry point in lieu of Annioesland? Or would that not work IRL?

From what I have gathered locally (Anniesland being within 2 miles of me) is as was said above. As in E&G doing a loop de loop (Via Ashfield , Anniesland & Partick) with the Dunblane/Alloa services doing the opposite direction (From Queen St - Partick - Anniesland - Maryhill - Ashfield - Cowlairs and turn left). Other services , although not within SimSig areas are changed dramatically to create space for the extra services. I do know for a fact that outwith Peak hours , Milngavie to Edinburgh via Glasgow QS , Airdrie and Bathgate won't run. Plus Springburn - Dalmuir services are being extended to Dumbarton Central for some other misc reason. That's what I've heared locally. Oh , and there's an Anniesland to Falkirk Grahamston service via Maryhill & Springburn too! Fun for the WoS & EoS Signallers then

Yes. Fun indeed! If I was to do a TT for this I would have services entering at Anniesland would enter at Westerton instead. Rather tricky to know how else to do things. Might have to alter the entry time a bit but it could still work.

That suggestion Dave is probably the better one. Slightly unrealistic but effective given the lack of entry points. Who knows what SimSig holds in the future but that is in my opinion a rather good idea! Oh, and it's roughly about the same time from entering at Westerton, give or take a minute or so either way!

Not in real life without a reversal at Westerton on the Milngavie branch but not out the realms of possibility. I know from actually seeing units , I have seen many 158's and 170's which are permitted to turn back on the branch (for those who know the area , it's reverses at YH536 via Platform 2 each way). Although Classes 150 and 156 (with a stray 158) have been right up the branch. Anyway , I digress , yes , with a reversal but would probably add about 10 minutes onto the journey and snarl up anything going West/East and up/down the branch.

As 320322 said, it would need a reversal in reality (hence why they've put in a new link at Anniesland). For the purposes of SimSig (assuming the layout currently simulated), just dump anything that goes to Anniesland at Westerton, and have anything from Anniesland enter at Westerton at a time that ensures it will pass Maryhill Park Jn at the correct time.
