I was wondering whether there might be any interest in a review section on the forum. The potential benefit, as I see it, is each new simulation (and possibly existing simulations) could have its own thread/topic where the community can post their views on a simulation.

While this happens to some extent just now on the launch thread comments tend to be fragmented or concentrating on issues. On some occasions there can be a bit too much euphoria and excitement when a new simulation is released before people have had a chance to spend enough time to make an informed view. Having a specific area of the forum would group all of the information in one place.

The kind of aspects I had in mind were:

[ul]
  • Value for Money

  • Quality of the released simulation

  • Quality of the standard WTT

  • Suitability for Multi Player sessions

  • Suitability for Solo sessions

  • Chaining opportunities

  • Operating interest (e.g. Junctions, Yards, Stations etc.)
    [li]Scope for early era timetables

  • Longevity

  • etc etc

  • [ul]

    Any views/comments?

Are you proposing a single "official" reviewer or that anyone can post an opinion?

The trouble is subjectivity. I know some people whove posted on here before about comfortably running Kings cross single handed while I find it impossible for instance.

I thought that anyone could post. In terms of subjectivity it might be a bit like Trip Advisor where you need to look at a few reviews and make a judgement based on their content. It might also be possible for people to have a view regarding the reviewer based on the quality/constructiveness of other threads they have participated in, amount of hot air in the shout box :-), or their experience of them in hosted sessions.
