For reasons which will become clear in due course, our Autumn meet will take place at The Plough, Museum Street, London (halfway between Tottenham Court Road and Holborn stations) on 15th. October. More details will follow presently.

That probably rules out a meeting in November in Derby. However, there is the chance that we can get the room at The Brunswick in Derby on 23rd. July 30th. July so we could have our summer meet there instead.

This is rather short notice for those who like to sign up for things like cheap rail tickets, so it may not meet the requirements for being an official meet. However, I am prepared to book the room and host an unofficial gathering if anyone is interested. The hire of the room is £40 which I will pay and anyone who wishes can make a donation on the day. Any surplus will be handed over for general SimSig admin (and I will stand any shortfall so you may find some aggressive chugging while we are together).

If you would be interested, could you please fill in the form at this link. Only your handle is required, although you can also enter your name if you wish. The spreadsheet showing the responses can be viewed here.

This is only a trawl to see if there is enough interest to justify booking the room. Please don't do things like buying rail tickets or whatever until there is confirmation that the unofficial gathering is going ahead.

Oops. Major cock-up and mis-read the diary. I should have put 30th. July, not 23rd. Title of thread edited. If anyone has already signed up and can't make the amended date, please drop me a PM.

Purely by fate I happened to walk past this establishment today. What turned out to be a trip to the Old Bailey to see just how the British justice system works got cancelled by a very burley man checking the boobies handbag and found her mobile phone. "You can't come in here with that". Who was I to argue so seeking for fiurther amusement we walked to the British Museum and there it was. A gin and tonic later and questions to the barmaid as to what if anything was happening on the said date brought not the slightest clue. There was no signs or indications of a possible Tyne, Doncaster or any other surprise Sim that may be waiting in the wings.

I've bitten the bullet and booked the room so there will definitely be a gathering in Derby on Saturday 30th. July. There will be no charge, although donations towards the £40 cost of the room will be gratefully accepted when we meet.

Please use the sign-up sheet at this link if you are going to attend so that we can give the pub some idea about numbers. You can see who has put their name up on the spreadsheet here.

I'll get round to putting the details for this unofficial meet and the pukka Octoberfest onto the Wiki in due course.

We are now three weeks away from meeting in Derby. So far we have a small but select attendance of 11 people. There is no compulsion about signing up as there is no admission charge but it would be helpful if anyone who is going to attend but hasn't yet signed up could add their name to the list using the form here. This is so that I can give the Brunswick some idea about numbers who might require to be fed.

You can see the list of those who have already signed up here.

Well, *that* was tempting fate.

The Powers That Be have decided that I'm attending a training course all next week.

In Suwon, South Korea.

I won't be back until the Sunday evening, so I'm going to have to miss the meet. Sorry.

(The one benefit of the late notice is that there's no economy class seats left on the flight I'll be on. So I get to go business class.)

It's worse when you get upgraded on the first leg of a 2-leg flight and get your booked economy on the second.

Especially when it's Gulf Air - though, to be fair, the business class on that particular flight could have been described as "roomy but still old, knackered, and broken"

Because we are a small but select company, the Brunswick have put us in the Parlour downstairs (free of charge) rather than making us pay £40 for the upstairs room.

Andy G and I here so far.

Have a good time. Sorry I can't be there.

Anyone know what yellow over blue over three white lights in a rotated "L" over a flashing "7" means?

Turned out to be the least comfortable business class seat to sleep in that I've ever experienced. Not a patch on Qantas.

Economy on the trip home tomorrow. Sigh.
