As future enhancement of existing '.exe' simulations appears to be dependent on the will of the original developer it will be interesting to see over time if these are superseded by simulations of the new Rail Operating Centres. Obvious examples for a wish list are: York ROC with work stations for Sheffield and Rotherham (area covered by existing Sheffield simulation) as well as the North Lincs work station (part of existing North Humberside simulation) AND East Midlands ROC with work stations covering the area covered by the existing Trent simulation as well as part of Derby In the South West Thames Valley will eventually take over all of the area covered by the Bristol simulation, although it will be interesting to see when this comes to fruition. One of the challenges to be addressed by the developers of some of these simulations - if they do come to fruition - will be chaining where re-signalling and/or re-control only covers part of an existing PSB area of control (e.g. part of Gloucester's control area recently moved to West Midlands). Personally top of my wish list would be the part of York ROC covering Sheffield and Rotherham work stations followed by East Midlands. North Lincolnshire would provide the first simulation on Sim Sig of MCB-OD Level Crossings and allow the signaller to concentrate on regulation rather than acting as a Crossing Keeper. Here’s an “out there” suggestion then folks: Simsig ROC ® I see people have made various attempts at running Simsig in the cloud but we need to think bigger than that Why don’t we look at developing a Simsig master server? My thinking is we run the whole Simsig network virtually in the background on a datacentre server, then SimSiggers can take panels of their choice as and when. The idea is you log in to Simsig roc and see who’s doing what and take a panel of your choice (if available ). No one has to worry about hosting and staying up late and dealing with the crap that goes with hosting a session. I for one like hosting sessions but look at my watch and think hmm My idea is we develop an AI engine that runs even if no one has any control. And it runs 24 x 7, in the future we could possibly link it the real world from the open train time feeds or such like If we have uncontrolled panels or areas the AI can take over and pass the trains to the next area We are talking at looking at AI engines here, rather than ARS Yes ARS works in the real world when a human is sitting there predicting what ARS will do but ARS gets itself in a pickle if un-monitored. If we bring an AI engine in then we could be on to something. Ok that might sound like a load of poppycock but I’m willing to try to develop this I have a datacentre with lots of servers at my disposal I have access to software developers The reality is here that Simsig ROC ® (ha-ha) isn’t going to be cheap and we would be looking at SimSiggers to pay a monthly subscription to have it but hey ho. Any freebee “not wanting to chip in" SimSiggers can stay with the original version, you know who you are. I’m happy to pay for any new sim that comes out as the developer deserves a reward for their time and effort to be honest. There have been many occasions where if have thought “great to have a few hours of network Simsig tonight” but disappointed because no one is hosting ….. Could this be a thing of the future? At the EMCC we also cover the Old Leicester PSB patch down to just past Wellingborough plus the Peterborough line across to Helpston and via Manton to Corby and Kettering

I seem to recall that a beta version of a Leicester simulation appeared at a meet many years ago never to be seen again. Log in to reply |
