Hi all. I'm a returning user after a longish absence. I've got some old freebie sims from way back (2008/9) and so I'm probably using a very old version of the base software. I used to work for BR back in the 70's and early 80's when I left to take up computer programming. As I have just retired (sort of) I would be interested in the programming language used and if I could learn it to create timetables etc...
I'll be looking forward to downloading some interesting sims.

The timetables are just a couple of XML files in a ZIP file for modern sims, so amenable to custom tooling if you wanted to put something together. SimSig itself isn’t open source though, nor is the simulation (i.e. layout) file format documented anywhere publicly, so us ordinary people can’t build those.

Thanks for reply Hawk777. I have been absent from programming since I was made redundant in 2004 and from what I can remember XML isn't too difficult. Is there anywhere I could view some source code as examples to refresh my memory? I would probably start with some simple sims like Southampton or maybe Royston. Regards NeilW

Online
Timetables can be written using the built-in editor (F4). There's actually no need to use XML unless you particularly want to or are importing times from online sources.

For samples, I'd try loading up a supplied timetable and using the export function to see how it works, or trying to open a .wtt file in an XML editor directly (not sure if the latter will work though).

Hi, I'm new to Simsig and have never tried this kind of thing before. I've done some Train simming before but thought I'd try this. I never realized train control could be so complicated. I'm used to flight simming which has another dimension to deal with but also has more 'steering' opportunities.

Thanks.

Hello my friends, I am a fellow simmer from HK, I sim quite a number of things, and that, of course, includes train simulator like openBVE. Hopefully I can enjoy this "new" sim as well.
