We do try and pick locations for meets to suit as wide an audience as possible. Putting that to one side, there is nothing to stop anyone organising a meet or social gathering anywhere they see fit. A venue needs to be found and if there is a room hire charge, someone needs to take the financial risk and pay for the room, hoping to recoup enough from those attending. However, there is nothing excessively challenging about any of that (if you discount the risk of someone being possibly £30 or £40 out of pocket for the room if no-one turns up!). If you wish to push something out through SimSig channels and call it an (unofficial) SimSig meet, you would need to clear things with Geoff Mayo (GeoffM). If you do want to set anything up yourself, best of luck although I probably won't be able to support you as it's an awful long way from Northumberland.
