I’m playing York North/South Spring 2016 and have 6E75 trying to leave York Yard South towards Colton Junctions before it has entered at the other end of the yard from Skelton Junction.

Clever stuff if it can be pulled off!

Screenshot below (hopefully) and I also have attached a saved game.

I've just run your save game. For me the onwards working out of the yard didnt enter the sim (despite you having received the phonecall already) until about 5 mins after the inward working drops off the sim. So it seems the rule that prevents the outward working from enetering too soon (or even before) the inward working enters the yard (leaves the sim).
I wonder if there is a slight bug in that when I opened the tt, the outwards working was set to enter 22 mins early, so the shunter phoned at that time, but then the train was held from entering the sim by the rule saying it must enter 5 mins after the inward left the area.
So bug possibly being shuntter phoning for entry when a train is governed by a rule that will prevent its entry on the phonecall.

Bugsy, do you have a save from just before the shunter phones asking for permission to enter?

Here is a save at 05.10

Let me know what you think after running it.

Cheers Bugsy.

Interestingly from running your save game and adjusting how early the second working is running, the shunter calls at whatever the entry time (including early or late running) but the train won't enter until 5mins after the first working leaves the sim.
However I've created a simple test TT to see if i could replicate it. Using 2 trains, initially 0Z01 and 0Z02, with a rule of 0Z02 must enter 5 mins after 0Z01 leaves the area, the shunter would not phone up until after the rule had timed out even if the delay, in the incident control panel on F4, was set to a value where he was set to enter before the rule had expired. I then changed 0Z02 to be 0Z01 as in Bugsy's issue, the headcodes were the same as the train was just passing through. Again the shunter waited for the entry tim or the rule to expire (whichever was last) before phoning up.

However on further look at 6E75 from the save game, not only are the two portions the same headcode, they also have the same Unique ID. Replicating that in my small test TT, with both portions having the same Headcode and the same UID, the shunter will ignore the rule governing the entry of the train, and will phone in at what ever the trains entry time is meant to be (with the delay minutes included, so enty at 0030 with delay of -14 he calls in at just before 0016) but the train does not enter until the rule has timed out, in my last example the inward working drops of the sim at about 0016 and so the outward working doe not enter until 0021.

In Bugsy's save game, I had the inward working of 6E75 pretty much constantly drop of the sim at about 0531, and so the outward working (with the 5 min rule) would not enter until 0536 if the shunter phoned for permision any time before that, or if after 0536, the train would enter once you gave the shunter permission.

This bug, from my replications, only seems to exhibit when both parts of the rule are using the same UID. Could someone with Mantis access see if this has been reported before, or create a new ticket please?
Cheers

Various issues raised in regard to the application of rules when the same TD/UID applies to both TT entries. There is a master Mantis 16068 which cross-references to 5 other tickets.

In real life, of course, this kind of thing could happen (well more or less).

Pascal's Carlisle timetable includes my old friend 4M38; in those days it was Mossend - Sudbury, but by 1983 it ran to Willesden Brent Sidings, and no longer had a portion for Willesden FLT, so the Plumstead paper (newsprint from Corpach paper mill, tagged 88P) were marshalled at the front of the train. That was a premium traffic, booked to go forward marshalled on the front of a Hoo Junction train (6O88 sounds familiar but that could have been a later Dover). The reason for the nmarshalling was obvious - hook the loco off 4M38, pull the 88Ps off the front & attach them to the rest of the traffic marshalled ready, then get it away so it got to Plumsted before the closed period (I believe the layout at Plumsted was such that the train stood on the main line while the loco shunted the vans off the front into the siding).

It wasn't unknown, if 4M38 was running late, to persuade the forward engine to do the shunt at Brent South End; it saved valuable minutes and I think the Southern crew were on a finishing turn, so they were inclined to be helpful.

But there was one morning when 4M38 was very late. So as soon as the inward engine was off, the train engine was hooked on while the vans were detached. All the necessary paperwork had already been given to the guard. Quick brake test and he rang out from the South End before the inward engine even had time to get clear. The rest of the Hoo traffic was left to be cleared by the second Dover, which ran that way. That's how important the Plumstead paper was. I'm not so sure the South End shunters didn't offer both to the Powerbox at the same time, before 4M38 had even come to a stand.

So maybe the York shunters are just doing a bit of smart old-style working :-)
