Had a bit of a panic just recently whilst playing the 2016 + Extras timetable.

Earlier, around about 06.45, I had 5X13 enter at Northallerton, destined for Hitachi. (see screenshot)
I assumed that once it had entered the area controlled by Heighington Signal Box that it would automatically be directed to Hitachi as scheduled.
This was not the case as it ended up at Bishop Auckland without me noticing and then kept advising me the it was at the buffer stop. I ignored this for a while although it should have rung alarm bells, but it didn’t as my brain was otherwise engaged frantically trying to deal with what seemed to be an endless succession of phone calls. I think that I really need to slow the sim down a bit.
Anyway, what did alert me was train 2D05 (I think) that was stuck at Shildon and not able to get to Bishop Auckland because the line was already occupied.
I quickly reversed 5X13 and got it back to the point where I was able to redirect it to Hitachi, although had to mess about a bit to do so.

Now, should it have gone to Hitachi without any manual intervention? Probably not, but if manual intervention is required, it might have been a little more helpful to have made the notes in the User Manual just a tiny bit clearer, even though it does state that some moves have to be manually handled.
Anyway, I’ll be more aware of what can happen if I don’t pay attention next time.
This will obviously have a knock-on effect, but hey ho. I will just have to deal with it.

The manual states any unusual moves should be handled manually and auto working isn't foolproof.

That said I'd expect it to call wrong route.

Yes. I did mention in my post above that I knew that some manual intervention was required occasionally.
However, as you suggest, I would have expected a wrong route to be called, but perhaps that's expecting a bit too much.

SimSig has location data associated with the route objects. Since no "route" is actually set, there is currently no way for the code to check for (in)valid locations.

OK. I understand that now. I Will make sure that I set a route next time. Thanks.

There aren't any routes here! Just levers. But the comment would apply for passing a signal at danger without a route set - the location check is also bypassed.

Bugsy, when I used to play trains for a living we always used to say that to assume makes an ASS of yoU and ME...

Wish that I had done trains for a living, or even signalling. That would have been 50-odd years ago. Ended up getting various jobs through people I knew, one of which I enjoyed so much that I actually really looked forward to going into work! How many people can say that I wonder.

I think that 'assumptions' are now a thing of the past.
