Carrog box- real-life operation 28/02/2019 at 21:10 #116092

During a recent trip to the River Dee, I passed Carrog station. From what I could see, signals 25 and 24 were cleared, and 2* was cleared for platform 1. This is consistent with the box being switched out. However, trains were running through to Corwen on the day, and 26* was at danger. Can anyone explain the procedure used for operating through trains? Does a staff member on the train open the box after arrival, run the loco round, then pull off for Corwen? Do they remain in the box while the train goes to Corwen and back?

I was there on a kayaking trip, so wasn't able to observe any operations first hand.

*Numbers are as they are in the simulation; I'm aware the number levers may be different as those signals have multiple arms.

Having spoken with Steamer off thread, on the day in question trains weren't running through to Corwen.

However when the line to Corwen is open...

When Carrog box is swtiched out the signals are left off for a train to run through platform 1. The guard, or other person can access the box to run the locomotive round the train. This used to happen once the train had propelled back from Corwen.
