I'm going with Yeovil/West of England, East London Line and Ashford (including HS1)

Yeovil / WoE would be good but IMO would look better if laid out as per the panel at Basingstoke ASC. I, meanwhile, will throw another two guesses into the mix: I wonder if we will get a final version of Staffordshire along with, perhaps, Three Bridges.

Other sims/updates that could be possible:
[...]
Liverpool Street to Shenfield/Colchester (We already have the West Anglia lines as far as Elsenham so maybe time for the GE to shine?)
[...]
Lancing to be re-released but extended to Rowlands Castle/Havant?

I hope Colchester ASC might appear one day: would be a good size lot if any sim thereof covered all of Colchester's area.

As for Lancing SB the area of control there is actually bigger than is given on the existing sim. At the moment the Lancing sim has East Worthing to Portslade with Worthing on the boundary but, to give a full Lancing area, a westward expansion would be needed to include control of Worthing, Durrington-on-Sea, Goring-by-Sea and Angmering, where Lancing fringes to Arundel.

Staffordshire seems a logical one geographically, and can set up a chain with 'home' sim Derby.

I'm still looking forward to Preston after it was previewed at the Preston meet last year so I'd like to see that as well, but that's personal choice rather than any logical guessing!

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

I'm guessing Leicester or Doncaster with them in a sort of near location to Derby but that's a guess..

I second Preston but the missing Three Bridges panels is the one sim I am most looking forward to!

We have had Panels 5 and 6 which takes us from Haywards Heath to Brighton so just need Panels 1 to 4 for a Brighton Mainline chain....

However at the Birmingham meet this year, Sandhills/West Yorkshire and Sheffield was on show and they are nowhere near Birmingham so could be a whole different area, even aboard!

We are now well underway at the Derby meet, with a group having set into a game on a new simulation.

Three Bridges has been previewed, though a date hasn't been set for release, it will be with you later in the year.

A screenshot is available.

Three Bridges is a sim that I will definately buy when it becomes available.

I used to travel on some of the lines to and from work before retirement, so know the area well.

Thanks for the screenshot, even though I stuggled to see much although now I have managed to enlarge it

If you click on the link and open it in a browser, you should only need to click once on the picture and it will come up to full size.

P.S.: Three Bridges has been on my wish list since about day 2 so I'm as excited as anyone. Very well done to whoever produced this.

Diolch for the screenshot Karl…

It was the original Croydon beta that saw me come across SimSig all those years ago being my very local area and not being able to produce exact tt’s on ms train simulator, so it’s great for it to see the light again albeit now in its expanded entire form amalgamated with Gatwick and Brighton!

I’ll try and sort out the decisions and multi seeds on all my pending timetables in order to have a sit down and rest before embarking on a Three Bridges 2012! Hoping my local knowledge gives a good advantage! How many testers can we break on this one!

Or should that be how many have already been broken at the meet! I can imagine chaos like there was with the infamous “taff panel” all those meets ago! Windmill this time?

Cheers to Geoff as I assume he’s the dev behind this amazing beast of a sim and great to see eras available. If you need any current day images taking for splash screens let me know and I’ll see what I can do.

John (Meld) won’t have any hair left the rate he pulls it out writing these tts... tho perhaps I won’t after this one either lol

Gareth

ps as far as I can tell all my data present and correct John!

Sadly, not one that interests me at all - its sheer size (it won't fit on 4 screens!), complexity and intensity means that its an impossibility for a single player without using ARS, which, for me, rather defeats the object of Simsig.

I guess there will not be much freight either.

However, I'm sure I'll be in the minority for wanting something of reasonable size capable of being handled by an experienced single player without ARS.

Thank you so much! I have patiently waited for this one sim! Seeing the Croydon beta is what got me into the Simsig!

Hi Vince,

There's probably a little more freight than you think with some routing via Redhill / Tonbridge to Dollands Moor (think that's the right place I'm thinking of) and the Aggregate yards at Purley, Crawley and Ardingly but yes not as much as other areas of the country / sims.

It is also possible to have ARS on in only a few areas so that you're able to manage to majority on your own and of course slowing the speed down would also help control more of the sim single handedly. I haven't seen the sim in person but have an advantage of its complexity by living locally so have an idea of what goes on which routes etc.

The technique I've used on Victoria Central and London Bridge to run single handedly is slowing it down an if I have ARS on, it's there as a backup and I try to scan and set routes before it does but gets you out of trouble if I miss anything.

There are plenty of sims that have been released in the last year or so which can be run single handedly without ARS and I know the size of Three Bridges puts you and maybe others off, but having waited I reckon around 15 years for the sim since a small part beta was released, there are a lot of people also looking forward to it - whether multiplayer or those that will attempt single handedly (like myself)

Everyone has their preferences in size of sim, areas and even eras and it is great and only fair that SimSig caters for everyone by developing sims of differing complexities and sizes that can be played single handedly and in multiplayer

I can't speak for all devs, but the sims I write are based on what information I have access to and what I would like to do. I don't deliberately make them large or small. I have a small one in the pipeline. I have a large one (at least in terms of physical area) in the pipeline. I have several refreshes in the pipeline.

(All together now ...)

I don't agree that using ARS is defeating the object of SimSig. Most of the original Sims came with ARS as a non-optional standard as SimSig is designed around the IECC platform.

I rather agree. There are many great sims that fit those criteria, and which I have logged many happy hours on - sadly I don't think any of them have made it to the loader. Cambridge, South Humberside, and the North London Line are three that quickly come to mind.

Peter,

As much as we all try (and largely succeed) to make it seem real, it is a game. A very good one, one that retired and current railway staff mix well with enthusiastic non-professionals. One that even current and retired signallers find reasonably realistic.

For a game you need "gameplay". In Simsig for me that means setting routes, deciding priorities, dealing with disruption and faults etc. ARS takes the first two more or less out of the equation which for me - and I can only speak for myself - takes most of the fun out of it.

I guess I'm just old fashioned. As an experienced former PSB manager, operations manager and many other operational things too I want to make the decisions myself. In Simsig ARS is not for me - as an indispensable aid to modern IECCs, signal boxes etc it is right and proper that it be simulated - its just not for me.

I don't buy or use sims with are so large and complex that they need ARS for a single payer to use them even at normal speed and won't fit across the four screens that I have. I want to see everything that is going on and if I can't somehow fit it all into four screens (using "new view" if I have to) then its a no-go for me. At some expense, I installed four screens purely for Simsig so as I could fit the larger sims all within view.

Many others will no doubt have a different take on it and I totally agree there is a plethora of choice in the sims that Simsig offers. In the original post I wanted to make a point that this sim is clearly not for everyone. Those that like multi-player games (I don't) will love it I'm sure.

Just for the record, Peterborough, Derby, Exeter, Westbury, Plymouth, Sheffield and the new Sandhills sim are the size that I favour.

My main beef with playing ARS honestly is that it takes away the ability to right click a train and see it's timetable, and instead dumps it into the message box in nuclear blue font, and only the next few timing points...

To fix this, go to Options > ARS > Clicking on a train description shows, ARS popup summary

I totally agree with the comments about ARS, I always turn it off although I do leave ACI on. However, I totally disagree about the larger and complex sims, the harder the better as far as I'm concerned, but I do have to turn the speed down at peak times on the very largest sims. Not sure why you need 4 screens, I manage quite well with just the one continually scrolling back and forth.
