0A06 Gascoigne Wood - Knottingley TMD.

Routed it into the ARR road between FE6385 and FE5398. When it arrived, it stopped at hidden signal "WA". 2mns later, called held at red. I read the manual but it only says call in advance which I did. I cleared FE5398 inot the DEPOT but 0A06 stayed at "signal" WA. I authorised it to pass WA and I assume it exitted sim on the points mid ARR Road because the train was no longer in sim but the route from FE5398 had not been spent.

What went wrong here please?

The layout at Knottingley is a bit misleasding if you've not witnessed movements on or off the depot or if you haven't worked at Knottingley TMD. Locos going onto Knottingley TMD tend to run either via Knottingley station & reverse behind GPS FE 5424 between England Lane & Knottingley crossings. The other way to go onto the depot is to run wrong road through P1 then onto the Up & Down Goods before reversing once behind FE6421 & then request the slot. Locos go off the depot via FE6285, but very rarely go on there. This is because access to the maintenance bays(3 of them at Knottingley TMD) & the fuel point are accessible coming onto the shed from the Sudforth Lane end of the depot, whereas coming onto the depot similarly to the way mattyq has described involves alot of unnecessary shunt moves to gain access to the fuelling & mantenance facilities. Knottinglet TMD is one of those locations whereby the residents there today would be a whole happier than back in the days of BR as the housing estate has built up around the depot & there was a constatin effort to get the nopise & pollution reduced as much as possible. So in short locos going onto Knottingley depot run via England Lane Crossing or via the UP & Down Goods line next to Knottingley station.

I have noticed that if you route a loco onto the depot by running it along the goods line (so 6381 -> grey arrow under P1, then 5398 -> 6411 -> 6423) you need to call in to get permission from the depot. Once the loco is sat behind 6421 signal, you need to call in AGAIN, which is a bit silly given that they know the loco is coming! So for operational purposes, going via the Down line at England Lane is the better option.

You had a reminder on the exit arrow. Despite it being an arrow it is actually a hidden signal so the reminder prevented it from changing up to a proceed aspect

Be careful with that. If the engine is booked to reverse at Knottingley Jn it needs to go via the goods line otherwise it will reverse in the platform. If it's booked to reverse at England Lane it needs to go main line and reverse at the level crossing.
