King’s Cross 3/11/19 timetable 12/11/2021 at 02:01 #142260

I have submitted a timetable for Sunday 3rd November 2019.

This timetable commences with a possession of the US/UF/DF between Hitchin and Woolmer Green, a possession between Finsbury Park and King’s Cross, and a possession between Bowes Park and Stevenage via Hertford. The first then reduces to the US only which remains for the entire day, the second is given up in the mid-morning, and the last in the evening.

As part of the above there is points renewal work taking place at Langley Junction on the up slow for the entire duration of the day, with a number of associated engineers trains. The two sets of points replaced are the two on the US at Langley Junction.

The train service is modified accordingly to accommodate the various engineering works, however as per reality there are numerous platforming mismatches at King’s Cross, and a few errors in the timetable which will need to be worked around. These have all been left in, so a watchful eye will need to be kept for these.

Operating restrictions:
1) As with similar era timetables, King’s Cross Goods is used as a substitute for St Pancras Thameslink. Freight Terminal Junction is also used as a substitute timing point for such trains.

2) As per reality, 12-car class 700s should not reverse via Hornsey EMU Sidings but should reverse via K440 signal instead (due to signal sighting issues).

3) During testing trains booked to run ECS Hornsey Depot to Hornsey via Harringay Reversing Siding required a manual reverse at Harringay Reversing Siding. This appears to be because the sim dislikes a train changing reporting number at Hornsey.

Please feel free to post any issues on this thread. This timetable has been run through once so I’m confident it should work well.

Hi David

1C09 that enters from Cambridge near the start of tt, the routing from plat 2 at Hitchin, after the reverse, to plat 4 at Stevenage won't work unless its sent wrong direction

Yes this is correct. As per what happened on the day, there is SLW on the down slow between Hitchin and Woolmer Green.

The train should be shunted from Hitchin 1 to Hitchin 2, then authorised to pass signals at Hitchin and Stevenage, and crossed back to the up line via the emergency crossover at Woolmer Green.

The Up lines plus down fast are all under possession.

This is an engineering works timetable, as as such contains a few unusual moves. There’s also a couple of gotchas in there which will require a watchful eye to be maintained. I won’t spoil any enjoyment, but King’s Cross in the late afternoon has one of them. This is all as per reality and what happened on the day.

If anyone doesn’t want to do the shunts, then just run them normally and pretend the engineering work has been cancelled!

hello not sure if this is the right folder but i couldn't find one for the 2017 tt.

i have noticed that any trains due to enter Letchworth A/D line do not enter the sim resulting in missing trains.

There shouldn’t be anything entering ex Letchworth A/D Line. Anything entering the sim will originate ex Letchworth CS, with a dwell on Letchworth A/D Line in the process.

The entire Letchworth interface is quite fiddly, and to add to this the sim doesn’t quite reflect what’s on the ground. What I’ve done is as close to reality as is viable to do.

For trains ex Letchworth: trains booked to go straight from Letchworth - Letchworth A/D Line should be routed into the reversing siding (and will then form something else, with a manual interpose required), whilst trains booked to go Letchworth - Letchworth A/D Line - Letchworth CS should be routed into the sidings. For the latter, if in the timetable it’s a stabler then the train will disappear, if it’s a reverser then the train will immediately re-appear (with a rule applied) and will dwell until the booked time.

In reality trains are booked to use one or other of the roads, however to keep things simple (and to avoid blocking the siding access for long periods in the sim) I’ve used the reversing siding as far as possible for reversing moves. The only time the right-hand road is used for reversals is where there’s a clash with something else.

I hope that’s clear. This all worked as per the above when I tested it, so if there’s anything which doesn’t work as per the above then please let me know and I’ll have a further look into it. Thankfully the Thameslink era timetables make much less use of Letchworth to reverse, so this is much less of an issue in May 18 onwards!

I’m not entirely clear why the sim isn’t in accordance with what exists on the ground at this location. It would appear the layout changed at some point, but if so it’s not a recent chance as I’ve known the current layout for quite some years. Would be curious if anyone knows any more?
