Have come across the Princes Risborough box has an open day tomorrow (Saturday 7th May)

Could be of interest to some... will combine with an Oxford circular trip myself.

CPR is NOT running as the access path is too near active tracks of CPR

Visit report....

Avoiding CPR running days was due to not wanting active signalling mixed with visitors. The path is in fact fully fenced in on both sides.

Was well supported (1400-1520) with several demonstrations / explanations going on:

Showing OTT maps of Chiltern running - and photo opportunities.

Current operations (northern end of box) and the Marylebone interface.
[Currently CPR run over the NR 'Thame siding']
This part of the box will become a museum with that part of the frame set up for the 1958 levers / diagram of North box as far as they remain - that end stops at lever 70.
Once the 'future layout' is done, public access will be to this end on a more regular basis.

Future operation (southern end of box) now refered to as 'Middle' box with levers 98-125
This has been set up to control the future layout and was being run as a hands on demonstration of a CPR train arriving, running round and departing.
[For use once CPR have laid their new line to allow independent running parallel to the NR Thame siding]

Downstairs (for the brave / short - spiders, ladders and low beams.)
On request for those interested in the below floor gubbins. Explaining the mechanical and electrical locking in operation, aided by the next group doing the run round 'task' above.

THE IMPORTANT BIT - tea and biscuits (plus for the CPR donations collection)!

All in all very worthwhile, recommend looking out for the next event

Pictures to follow.... and hi to 'uktrainman'

Now downstairs...

Locking arrangements looking upwards.
Electrical releases nearest, then the actual interlocking 'logic' and then the drive bar from the levers at the top
(I did not get up the ladder for a better view)

Pulleys (signals) and cranks (points)

Stephen,

I did not notice that, but not particularly looking. Could simply have been someone stood in front and not part of the explanations. That end was more the 'ex-signalmans meeting zone'.
