Originally, you had to type in the ID of the new timetable when switching a train over to run in a different TT. This was changed more recently with the text box replaced with a dropdown list of all the TTs available.

I actually find the newer version more labour-intensive to use. Whereas with the original you just had to press four or five keys, it can often now take ten or more mouse movements or clicks to find the one you want in the list.

My suggestion, therefore, is could it be made to work like the F4 train list, whereby if you press keys on the keyboard it starts a search dialogue so you can navigate to the TT you want that way.

As far as I know you can still type the Headcode into the box and it'll automatically scroll to that point.

Not certain though.

Adrian,

What lpeters says is correct. The new dialog allows you to operate on the list with the mouse or as I do, by typing out the headcode you'll scroll down to the respective item in the list. Personally I find this new dialog option a lot more confortable than the previous system.

Regards,

P.D. This is on the recent refresh versions

One small tweak that could be made is that, in at least some sims, when the dialog opens, the focus doesn't always default to the 1st combo box.

In Sheffield (v2.995), for example, the first time you open it, the focus is on the "Run to another timetable" tab. (Speaking of which, why is that a tabbed dialog, when there's only 1 tab?) Once you hit Tab, then you can type the head code, hit enter, and next time the focus will be on the combo box. But if you tab down to change the starting point, then hit enter, next time the focus will be on that combo box.

Edit:

One more small point, this is under Wine. I can't remember for sure if it behaves this way in Windows.

The above is not entirely correct - well, not with the Sheffield version I've got (non-scrolly but with the Hope Valley line including Earles Sidings).

If I tab the focus onto the train ID dropdown, typing a digit does indeed jump to the first train of that class in the TT. But then when I type the second character of the headcode, nothing happens. If I type the third digit anyway, say the 8 out of 0H81, it then jumps me ... to the first Class 8 in the TT.

Adrian,

It does work. However you musn't pause too long between keypresses. If you do, the capturing of the keys restarts. This *usually* a Windows thing and is related to the list box control. I'm don't currently recall if these timings are tweakable on the control instance or globally across windows. Maybe one of the Delphi experts can comment on the options available.

Regards,

You're right, if I type the first two characters ultra-speedily, it does. But I have to type them so fast I need my fingers poised over the keys in question, and I don't think I'd ever be able to type 4 characters at that speed!

If you do find out how to tweak the time limit, please let us know! Unfortunately I'm not quite that techie when it comes to Windoze.
