I think I know the answer but I like to double check but in both SimSig timetables and real life working timetables that have a train carrying out a reversing move at Exmouth Junction, do they use the headshunt opposite the cement works there to do this move or do they actually head onto the Exmouth branch itself as far as signal EJ21 to reverse behind signal EJ20 to than make it's way back towards Exeter? Does anyone know what Network Rail or even Great Western mean when they use the location to reverse at please? Log in to reply |

The headshunt, a move onto the Exmouth branch will probably conflict with the branch service.

Both moves are operationally valid, it depends on traffic, failures etc. If there is no conflict on the single line it might be beneficial to cross the train over onto the single line to clear the Up Waterloo for a 1Lxx service. Probably only done it a few times on the real panel but its certainly a move to claw back a few minutes.
