Real-life regulation advice needed. There's a 1Uxx train from the Up Trent Valley Slow booked for Platform 5, arr xx33, dep xx34 to the Up Fast via Weedon, and there's a 2Yxx from the Coventry line booked for Platform 6, arr xx36, dep xx39 all shacks via Northampton. I've noticed the 2Yxx usually approaches early enough that I can just about get it into P6 first before I put the fast into P5. This would give customers for Euston a cross-platform connection to the fast train. If I stick strictly to timetable and let 1uXX into 5, followed by 2Yxx off the flyover into 6, customers on the slow train will see the fast pulling out of Rugby just as they arrive.
Is it bad form to overcrowd the fast train with connecting passengers, when there's no connection timetabled as such between the two?

I don't know about these days but it used to depend very much on the signalman. There were some who would always be on the lookout for a 'quick move' who would pull that kind of thing every chance they got. And there were the others whose attitude was 'booked route, booked order' and the Coventry would stand. Bad form would never be the bobby's concern unless complaints led to the box having an instruction to ensure the connection was never made.

To be honest, I doubt many passengers would notice the available connection as it obviously wouldn't be in journey planners. In any case, anyone going to Euston from the 2Yxx has probably chosen to be on that particular train for a cheap ticket anyway, as the usual fast way to Euston would be to change at Coventry for the next available express to Euston.

There's also to take into account that this wouldn't happen as much in real life - drivers will have the knowledge about their running time allowances and (hopefully) drive to roughly compensate for that. Going fast and then stopping for 3 minutes isn't efficient.
