Everybody's mentioning passenger trains, but what about freight trains
Mainly passenger is easier for most to check in a GBTT. I did look in one WTT I have but did not find anything long distance via Leeds in the oil trains from west Wales.
Without a Preston sim, Holyhead is further from Crewe. So the Herbrandston - Holyhead beats the Herbrandston - Polmadie as that falls off at Wigan. A passenger would be slightly longer anyway if running via Swansea station.

I think longest run on current sims would be Llanelli (inc) - Newport - Shrewsbury - Stockport - Huddersfield - Leeds - Newcastle - Morpeth (ex).
Was there ever a train that way ?
Mails ?
Oil from West Wales ?
Steel ?
GW-LNER through coach ?
Huddersfield doesn't chain to Leeds or West Yorkshire. Healey mills is missing.

I did look at the margam - hardendale as well but to Euxton junction it was only about 200 miles.

We need someone to organise a railtour!

Penzance - Westbury - Swindon - Didcot W Curve - Oxford - Leamington Spa - Coventry - Birmingham - Crewe - Warrington - Manchester - Huddersfield is the longest route I can find in-sim without a reversal.

If reversals at Huddersfield and Sheffield were allowed, you could run on through Penistone, Sheffield, Doncaster, York, Darlo, Newcastle to Tyne Docks

Can’t you just run in an infinite circle on Tyneside?

Have you got an officially timetabled train to do this?

Purely for the pedantic who inhabit these parts, there is a typo in the Tyneside sim and the location is actually Tyne Dock.

Thanks for the replies, I was surprised Australia didn't jump to the top. Though checking into it the longest possible journies seem to be around 230 miles.

Everybody's mentioning passenger trains, but what about freight trains such as the Burngullow to Irvine silver bullets. IIRC that was the longest[distance wise] freight service running on the BR network. Running via Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, Severn Tunnel, then right at Maindee East Jn, via The Marches to Crewe & then north via the WCML to Scotland worked by a pair of Cl.37/5 locos throughout. Most of which is covered by a sim. Passenger wise although it's not all covered on sims be 'The European' which originated at Harwich Parkeston Quay to Glasgow Central. This train used to run across country from Harwich, Ipswich, Stowmarket, Ely, March, Peterborough, Grantham, Nottingham, Alfreton & Mansfield Parkway, Chesterfield, Sheffield[loco change SF Cl.47/4 off & another one on], Stockport, Manc'r Piccadilly, Manc'r Oxford Road, Bolton Preston[loco change diesel off/AC eletric on] & the via the wcml to Glasgow Central. It ran as 1S85 07.17 Harwich Parkeston Quay to Glasgow Central & the return went via the same route in return & ran as 1E87. Then later in 1989 it was sent from Harwich up the GE to Channelsea Curve Jn over the NLL & then ran via the WCML all the way to Glasgow Central. Also for a short time this train was worked by a diesel dragging the AC electric DIT over the NLL.
The discussion has been around the longest route which can be run in SimSig with sims which chain and at some point has been released.

Bristol has never chained to Newport, and there has never been a Preston sim, which splits both of your examples in half.
Yet being the key word here, there's no reason to assume that neither might not happen in the next SimSig control period or not.

The rebuilt of Bristol surely would chain to Newport as to Preston, never say never if the drive is there and the developer has the resources available.

Clocks in at 269 miles Cwmbargoed to New Mills Central (discounting Peak district) or 283 miles if Peak district is allowed?
There's a sim under development that will exceed that by a margin, but I'm not saying anything more than that for now.

In my day the route was Kensington - North Pole Junction - Old Oak thence down the GW. I don't recall a Brighton-Manchester changing engines at the Mitre when I relieved at North Pole (mid-1979 - early 1980) but I suppose it might have happened later on (when I was on the West London the Brighton-Manchester was being hailed as a brand-new initiative). The Mitre Bridge engine changes were all Motorails or specials. (Unless my memory is fading, that is.)
In the autumn of 1981 the Sunday morning northbound went from Brighton to East Croydon, then next stop Kenny O, then round and on to the GW to Reading (might have stopped at Slough) and head towards Brum. At least one train each week went from Kenny O to Watford Junction (not sure if it stopped) and up that way to Brum. I know this because I used it one Sunday morning as part of the fastest route from Cambridge to Birmingham (well, the guard believed me) and, more importantly, I was looking for a way to "clock" the route.

Highly unlikely, not least for the fact that getting the signalling data for the Russian Federation is.. not really possible.. for people IN Russia, let alone those in the 'west', and for the sim to be even remotely playable, once east of Kazan' the covered area per sim would have to be literally 1000s of km. East of the Urals you can travel for almost an entire day between major population centres.

Omaha dispatching Centre confirmed! Without checking every single subdivision I dont actually know if if one exceeds 260 miles but its a fun thought anyway.
