I can't seem to find anything in the manual that refers to platform, loop, siding lengths etc.

The Cardiff manual suffered heavily from being edited by people with good intentions, but incorrect interpretation of how things operate. It looks like the length information was lost restoring to a good version a few years ago, I'll see if I can dig something out of the archive.
