How to deal with WIJ platform 2 closure? 09/08/2023 at 21:05 #152708

I decided to play with a random closure for the Wembley Suburban sim, and it rolled that platform 2 at Willesden Jn would be closed.

This, of course, causes issues because trains coming out of Willesden TMD reverse using P2, and there's a few trains that enter at Camden Jn that do that as well.

I thought that I could do something like route from either the Down (signal 21) or TMD Arrival (signal 302) to 25 at the end of platform 1, with 31 set to red. Then route them back via platform 1 towards Kensal Green Jn.

But instead trains just phone querying the route set at the signals 21 or 302 with "No route to Kensal Green junction". My choices are then to have them "Wait 5 minutes" (to set another route), "Abandon timetable", or "Bypass Willesden Jn and then keep to timetable"

Since "wait" or "Abandon" really don't help, I say "Bypass" but then they call right back and my only options are "Wait" or "Abandon".

Starting at the 04:45 point of the "Wembley Suburban 2009-10-15 SX" timetable, this affects trains 5L30 (which I got to cancel before it entered), and 5L02.

5L02 is where things go pear-shaped, because I cannot do anything for it by just choosing "Wait", and when I choose "Abandon" it just tries to continue on its merry way all the way up to Watford Jn. I also cannot stop it from entering either.

So what is the right thing to do here?

Hi, Welcome to the forums. The only way I can see that this could be dealt with is sending them in to P3 and then to signal 31 Just beyond the platform to reverse back in to P1 and up towards Kensal Green Jn. Of course this would either require a timetable edit or abandon and set Signal 31 back to red and then manually reverse. In my opinion if this did happen I'm pretty sure they would send the train on the Mainline to reverse at Wembley U&D Goods or HLG and then send it towards Kensal Green Jn from there.

Thanks, and this helped me figure out what to do.

I went for the Abandon and hold at 31, where I'd often have to hold them until scheduled Up traffic went past so that I didn't accidentally block P1.

I could also then use "Run to Another Timetable" and set back the original departure time from WIJ.

Invariably though I'd end up being penalized 2 "Other points lost" as well as having the train arrive (over 5 mins) late into WIJ - but considering it was that or block P1 and have more late services, that seems the better option. Oh well.

Quite frankly I wouldn't worry about penalties or points. At worst they represent the station supervisor or the Control on the phone asking what in heaven's name (or words to that effect) you're up to, or perhaps a driver likewise but in even brusquer language. For the most part they represent the signalman's own "drat, if I'd done it that way I could have had twenty seconds more in the chair with my cuppa".
