Unfortunately, as of 11am Thursday - this link is causing problems to Firefox users. :(
Other browsers may have similar problems. If so please report them ONCE here. :/

I am sure when the author or some other capable person sees this when they log on, they will rectify it ASAP ::

'fraid I don't know enough about the inner workings to comment- save that my work's IE6 seems OK. The maps are just PDFs so it does seem odd that there is a problem.

Using Firefox 3.6 on XP SP3. No problems whatsoever.

Bear in mind that firefox "seems" to block for a bit when opening PDF files directly (depending on the connection speed and the size of the PDF).

Those who wish may want to check out the "PDF Download" plug in by "Nitro PDF". It has the advantage of asking what to do with the PDF such as open in another window, open directly in Adobe Reader, save to disk, etc. I have found it quite useful.

Regards,

Nicholas

I can open SimSig_edinburgh.pdf but none of the others. It may be significant that that file was the first one I tried to open.

I'm also using Firefox 3.6 on XP SP3

Update to that: tried closing and reopening the browser, and now none of them will open!

A couple of non-IT errors on the Edinburgh map, before I've actually looked at the sim: "Wester Hailes" is spelled wrong, "Rosyth" is spelled wrong, and the station hasn't been called "Rosyth Halt" for many years. The Leith Docks branch and the other north Edinburgh freight branch that I've forgotten the name of aren't on it; neither is the Charlestown branch (oldest Scottish railway still just about in use, isn't it?), but they are on the map. Several of the stations opened during the sim's quoted "1990-2006" period, and one (Dunfermline/Dunfermline Town) changed its name, but I don't know what the sim uses. The Central Scotland map is, shockingly, missing the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway connection at Manuel.

Working fine in Safari and Opera but same problem in Google Chrome as Firefox 3.6.

Will open OK using Coral IETab Add-on for Firefox (i.e. opening using IE within Firefox).

Disabling Adobe Acrobat Plugin in FF 3.6 enables you to view file using Acrobat Reader rather than within FF.

Doesn't work for me, FF 3.6, Vista x64. However, I can right-click and "Save As" to view outside of FF.

I have just had the same response (Close Acrobat Reader) when trying to see the Leeds CAMRA Beer Festival List. I don't have Reader on my machine - I use PDF-Xchange. So I suspect it's something changed in Firefox and not the fault of AndyG. I was not aware of getting an update!

Sim uses 'Town', however, as I mention in the manual there are some historical anomolies mainly to facilitate a wider range of timetables.

If I can get the data I'll try and do a proper 1970-1990 option.

Apologies for rambling on about it before I've had a chance to look at the sim itself!

Somewhere unfindable I have a plan of a good proportion of the Edinburgh layout as originally commissioned, in a copy of Modern Railways. Not enough evidence to do a sim, though. The main changes would be: the Abbeyhill loop; double track through Calton Hill South Tunnel; more sidings on the site of Waverley platforms 2-6; Waverley goods yard still in situ; and, I think, the up side through line bypassing platform 1 as well as platform 19 (with a crossover facing the same way as the post-electrification layout). Outlying parts of the Edinburgh area had very few layout changes from the 1970s through to 2004 (when I moved away); even the reopening of the Bathgate branch didn't lead to much alteration of the track layout.

Just to report seems to work fine for me here on Google Chrome and using the little known Sumatra PDF.

Re maps and plans ,

As an aside , as soon as I saw the sims yesterday I headed down to my local raiilway station to purchase the Railway Track Diagrams book for Scotland to assist with visualising the areas involved . I must admiit that it has been over a decade since I last visited Scotland.
