I am back everyone. Sorry if you missed me, but I want something in SimSig. SPAD indicators, some of you may have not known about them, but basically these look like 3 aspect signals, but they have a blue backing, blue ID plate, and they have 3 red lights. The top and bottom lights flash when a SPAD occurs, and also the middle lamp lights up and "STOP" in black letters is written on it. It is automatically operated when a train passes a signal at danger, regardless if authorized or not, however there is a plunger to turn it off temporarily. Can be useful for multiplayer sessions when the host causes a SPAD. These are mostly removed in real life, however examples still remain, at Trimley there's one SPAD indicator in the side of the level crossing.
Class 150/2 approaching towards Welshpool. Wrong train you got, only 158's are fitted with ERTMS.

SPAD indicators aren't always drawn on the panel or signalbox diagram, and therefore wouldn't make it in to SimSig in those cases.

I'm sure if a simulation is done of an area that includes a SPAD indicator on the workstation or panel it would be included.

Will there be a Felixstowe simulation or there is already? I'd like to see the Trimley SPAD indicator on the panel. It's controlled from Colchester as far as I know.

There's no simulation of that area at present, you're right that it's controlled from Colchester.

It looks like the Ipswich panel at Colchester has them drawn on, but I can't tell from the photos if there's a lamp behind them. http://photos.signalling.org/picture?/4099/category/1808-2015_april

I know the Manchester South SCC shows the SPAD indicator at Cheadle Hulme on the display (VDU based); no idea whether it activates in any way if triggered - I'd imagine there are more visible and noisier alarms if the indicator is set off!

Incidentally, some SPAD indicators can be overridden if a train is required to pass a signal at danger, though it is done by a plunger - with GSMR in the cab its probably easier to let the indicator go off to avoid delays whilst the driver climbs out to activate the plunger.

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

I'm guessing it shows as a blue signal head in normal use? I believe they flash red on the VDU when activated, though I've never seen one go off to check!

Looks like it - I'm going off a photo so no idea of indication on the VDU.

Don't forget the old Euston layout - it doesn't have any SPAD indicators on the ground, but the "Train running away" alarm in the box itself.
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

The 2 SPAD indicators at Shipley for L3966 (Platform 4 Leeds end), and L3971 (Platform 2 Keighley end) do show on the Leeds North West workstation in York IECC. They are indicated with in grey as '3966 SPADI' and '3971 SPADI' When activated they do not illuminate on the panel independently, they are activated with the usual SPAD alarm sound, track highlighting, and message on the General Purpose Screen. They are basically just shown there for visual reminder to the signaller of their presence when authorising passed the signal concerned at danger.

I'm not so sure on that. Don't spad indicators activate on other lines (if fitted) as well if a signal is passed at danger?...and to that if any other driver sees an activated spad indicator he is obliged to stop and contact the signaller even if the spad indicator doesn't apply to them.

Depends - the only one I encounter is at Cheadle Hulme; it is activated by two signals (one on Down Stoke, one on the Up Wilmslow BiDi), though of course anything on the Down Wilmslow would also be stopping if it was lit. I've never been made aware of any plunger to override it, nor have I seen anything that looks like one unless it is co-located with the SPT in which case it presumably activates if a train is authorised to pass one of the relevant signals.

There used to a SPAD indicator in the Down line for a SPAD on the Up line at Gillingham in Kent.

London Bridge Platform 6 (pre Thameslink work) had a SPAD indicator in association with L100 Signal (Platform 6 Up Starter), photos attached. I have also attached a photo of the visual indication The Signaller had on the overview. SPAD indictors were a nightmare when having to flag passed a signal at Danger.

With new signalling layouts which are WestCad driven, SPAD alarms are included which having different degrees of effect on Signals on adjacent/conflicting lines. For example, in the Cannon Street area, any SPAD alarm will cause all signals in that interlocking area to revert to Danger, be locked for 4 minutes. The Signaller acknowledges it then has to wait a further one minute before signals are released. With TPWS fitted, SPAD indicator are redundant as TPWS will bring the train to a halt rather than relying on a driver to see a SPAD Indicator to then stop the train.
