To give people time to plan, I've put up details of the Tokyo meet next year. If you have any questions, concerns, ideas, or anything then please use this thread to discuss. There are a few people here who are good at getting cheap airfares. I'm told that language will not be much of a problem - and we'll be in the land of trains!

A very familiar system from a US signal fan. One panel running one interlocking; Very odd seeing it in a Japan which seems to be mostly computer controlled or mega NX panels in central office buildings.

Suggestion: Since we're doing a James Bond theme, how about visiting Hashima Island whilst we're in Nagasaki? It is the abandoned island feature in Skyfall. Tours are available. Details available at http://www.hashima-island.co.uk

By all means ride the Shinkansen, but if you are in Tokyo, try to make time for a ride on the Enoden (Enoshima Dentetsu), a charming ride from Kamakura (do not miss the Buddha) to Fujisawa. Ride out from Tokyo to Kamakura (Yokusuka Line) back from Fujisawa (Tokaido Main Line), or vice versa.

Travelling into Tokyo - well, SimSiggers would look for a rail option, wouldn't they, rather than the Airport Limousine bus which doesn't really take you anywhere very useful in Tokyo. JR East Narita Express is all very well, but think about the alternative of the Keisei Skyliner, which was two-thirds the price when I was last in Tokyo. Observe how, on what is basically a two-track railway, the non-stop Skyliner is weaved into the pattern of stopping trains. I was impressed.
