Entering start / destination and times manually in 'misc' section? 23/09/2018 at 12:54 #112289

Hi guys,

I'm still carrying on testing my West Anglia timetable and have realised that, in seeding trains, they've all carried the same time over in the misc section (where one can enter an origin and destination along with times manually).

I've opened it from a save previously and have noticed that all the previous times I'd entered in manually appear to have disappeared in trains that have previously entered and/or terminated.

Does this mean that when I upload the TT here, trains will enter without this filled in or is it a quirk of TT writing?

Cheers,
Joe

It is far better for your sanity to only edit a timetable in a paused sim at 0000.
Otherwise you are dealing with a moving target in train lateness and your own edits

Sorry, I forgot to answer this when I saw it. The information on the Misc tab is purely for interest and does not affect the running of trains.

I'm not sure about the losing of timings. Are you editing the master timetable (F4) or a running train's copy of the timetable (F2->Edit timetable)?

Saving a TT is not as easy as it might seem. There is a Wiki page which delves into some of the detail. The address is "https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack:ttuse:ttexplan&s[]=ttuse". It won't post as a link using the button when you are writing a post because of the square brackets in the URL. As it is something that has caught people out for many years, it has come up in the Forum a number of times. I've been trawling back and you might find an explanation I put on the Forum in this thread in 2015 helpful. The relevant text is:

"Once you open a sim using a TT from your hard disk, the Loader program reads the TT and incorporates it into the data it holds to run the sim (or in pre-Loader sims, the exe file did that). It does not refer back to the hard copy on your disk while you are running the sim or when you reload the saved game because the saved game has the TT which you last used to run the game.

When you use F4 or the Menu Bar to go into the TT, make any modifications and save the TT, you have changed the copy on your hard disk. At that point the updated TT is saved on your hard disk, but is only in the active memory of the sim. Unless you save the game before you close down the sim, the active memory is lost so when you reload the sim, you are reloading a save from a time before the TT was edited. That means you see the unedited TT, even though your file copy of the TT has changed. What makes it even more confusing is that when you go into F4, the TT name is the same as your saved copy even though the data is different.

So, if you want to carry forward an edit to the TT so that you can re-start with your new data, you must save the sim as well as saving the TT. Then, when you re-load the sim, the new data is available."

Hope that clears some of the fog.
