A reminder that the next meet will take place at The Walrus and The Carpenter, Monument Street, Lndon, EC3R 8BU, on Saturday 17th of November 2018.

The venue itself is closest to Monument tube station, but can be accessed via a short 10 minute walk from Bank LUL, Canon Street NR, Tower Hill DLR, Fenchruch Street NR, London Bridge LUL/NR.

If you are planning to attend please let us know via the sign up sheet.

The dev team will be providing at least one un-released simulation to be played on the day, the exact setup to depend on numbers on the day.

If the answer's a 'you'll see from posts on the day!', then fine - but just to set a few hares and guesswork running, has this sim been mentioned before at all?

To the best of my knowledge the simulation in question has never been openly discussed on the forum.

So with that being said let's have the traditional competition.

A free drink (Alcoholic or none alcoholic) to the first person to correctly guess the simulation, and who attends the meet. One guess per person.

I will leave you with this

1) The simulation has to the best of my knowledge never been openly discussed on the forum
2) It will be chained on the day to two other simulation (Which may be already released, or previously seen at other meets) The chain will be in the form of Sim 1 - Sim 2 - Sim 3

At the moment only 16 signed up, not all with laptops for public use. It would be good if a few more decided to attend so that Karl has enough laptops to create his full chain.

Interesting possibility and, in view of this part of Karl's post.....

..... it could be a good bet because Reading would chain to Westbury as well as Swindon & Didcot sims. However I am going to have a different guess and think of one which has been longed for by some (including myself) and would allow formation of a large chain if it came to fruition. My guess therefore is Doncaster PSB which, if released, would - I think - allow a chain covering Tyneside IECC down to Kings Cross via. York, Leeds and Peterborough. I am prepared to wait and see but Doncaster PSB is my guess. And it is a guess because I am not party to, or have any way of finding out, what is in development or about to be released.

Reading has already been announced as in development, and a screenshot was posted a few years ago.

Previously announced simulations (to the best of my memory) are: Reading, Slough, Port Talbot, Hereford, West Wales, Walsall, Stockport, Manchester South, Warrington and Preston.

I didn't see anything of Reading nor a image to be fair. That's why I guessed it. But thinking about it I'm sure it was mentioned at the Glasgow meet unless the drink was talking to me instead by that time...

I know Preston/Warrington are in development as are the others mentioned.

I’m going to make a wild guess of Crewe.

As for laptops, as long as my old one still boots (not switched it on for 6 weeks or so) I will be brining 2 laptops with me

I'm not going, but would have guessed the same - can potentially be chained in several versions of 3 (Crewe-Stafford-Wolverhampton, Crewe-Stafford-Rugby North, Stafford-Crewe-Warrington, Crewe-Warrington-Preston or Crewe-Manchester South-Stockport) depending on what else is in use on the day! Of course, on that logic, there is quite a lot that could potentially be released!

Throwing a wildcard out there for the missing link between Salisbury and Exeter, possibly pen mill to chain to Westbury and/or Dorchester?

Otherwise maybe the missing link between wolverhamton and Shrewsbury.

Just updated my attendance to say I'm bringing a public laptop. (Provided I've locked down a guest account, and made my Linux setup usable for people not used to it!)

Not quite. Rugby North doesn't currently chain to Stafford: the line between just north of Polesworth and just south of Rugeley Trent Valley appears in both sims but the layout is different with Rugby North sim showing what I believe is the current layout. I believe I am right in thinking that the latter is awaiting an update to facilitate such a chain but what the progress is on that front I have no idea because I have not heard anything about it in recent times.

As I see things the answer might be to re-release Stafford with an update which would give two eras: the present Stafford sim layout (which would remain non-chainable) and the more modern layout (if all required info, such as plans and track circuit data were available) which would facilitate chaining to Rugby North and would also incorporate parts of Stoke SCC's area (as I understand things, of the Stafford sim layout as it currently is, Rugby ROC has the former areas of Stafford no. 4 and Stafford No. 5 whereas Stoke-on-Trent SCC took over Colwich, Rugeley TV, Meaford, Norton Bridge, Stoke and Madeley. Having said that there is a code with Rugby ROC for Lichfield to Stafford - 'LS' so I don't know if Colwich and Rugeley have gone over to Rugby ROC). The Norton Bridge flyover would hopefully put in an appearance as well.

Ah yes, forgot about the changes with the introduction of Rugby. That said, a Crewe area sim would offer a number of chaining possibilities even without a re-released Stafford.

Not to forget but it would be no chain between Crewe and Warrington. You would need Crewe Coal Yard SB unless it gets Incorporated with Crewe. Then Winsford SB which controls from outside of Coal Yard through to Sutton Weaver and Preston Brook (Warrington) Fringes. Also Hartford C.L..

Must admit my basis for Crewe is that it would incorporate a lot of the fringe boxes surrounding the main station panel, as whilst the station is busy it doesn't control a particularly big area and would probably require some element of simulation of boxes such as Basford Hall and Coal Yard purely to give advance warning of arriving trains.

No chance of Stour Jn? Walsall and Saltley...

Although suppose that doesn’t fit the chain pattern headshot outlined.

My bet is on the rest of the GW line from Plymouth out to Penzance (including Par, Truro and other branches...)

Second bet is West of Cardiff towards the Welsh west coast (Carmarthen, Milford Haven, Fishguard Harbour, Pembroke Dock).

I know it's one vote per person but in any case, I'm too far away to claim my eventual pint

I am also keen to see Stourbridge Junction along with Walsall. Those would be welcome to complete the Midlands circuit. As the saying on here always goes though any new sim will be ready when it's ready.

What would be fun would be to do what was once done and to put a small part of the layout without signals and station names and see if anyone guesses it from that. No mater though: whatever the sim(s) turn out to be I will look forward to it.
