The only clue I'd give would probably allow those of you who either worked for BR or was a rail enthusiast during that time(pre 1994). The freight in the area covered by the sim out weighed the passenger traffic on a scale around 40 freight trains per passenger train.
Now that's a tease Pascal. If you're including all the trips in that 40:1 ratio, with all the coal traffic still around at that time it could be either Doncaster or possibly the Calder Valley (more specifically Healey Mills). Tomorrow is going to be like waking up on Christmas morning :-)

Phil.
Err indeed. AFAIK it's my timetable for the sim which is being preview2ed. If you prefer freight t passenger working then you'll be in heaven & certainly a case of come back BR all is forgiven. I'm not going to say whether you are correct or not & what I said earlier is the only clue I'll give.

Good thought about the Calder Valley although I don't know the layout around those parts so I am sticking with my theory of Sheffield. I wonder if it could be a revamped Sheffield though: as a thought Sheffield PSB closed (according to Phil Deaves' website) on 01-May-2016 to York ROC's control and I had wondered whether someone might one day try and add it to the York ROC suite. Might have involved renaming of a line to Down Goods. The line name could be taken out by using Paintbrush anyway....

Calder Valley would be a good one: Wakefield Kirkgate is certainly a large panel: photos at https://photos.signalling.org/index?/category/640-wakefield_kirkgate

Or maybe we might be surprised and see more than one sim? I will be happy either way. However I will not be at Birmingham as I am spending the weekend in Devon so I will wish everyone a good meet and hopefully see you lot at Derby.

Dave
Karl (Headshot119) did post in the meet thread that "at least one new sim will be previewed" so yes we are likely to receive word on more than one new sim. As I'm an East Midlands lad, top of my personal wishlist is Leicester followed closely by Merseyrail's Sandhills (nothing to do with East Mids I know)), but I'll be happy with any of the sims mentioned by other posters.

As far as Sheffield PSB goes, to the best of my knowledge it was a straight recontrol from the old PSB to York ROC, meaning nothing will have changed on the ground. Regarding Sheffield in Simsig, I believe that is just a conversion of the old PSB paged sim to a scrolly version.

Phil.
Correct Phil nothing changed other than the reduction from 5 panels to 3 and the connections in relation to the tram train.

Regarding the sim, it's clearly going to be Ferrybridge power station control room. 40 MGR workings and one misrouted HST that accepts the route and works round the loop.

Yep & I know the driver who was on it. He was at Bedford when I was there, before he went to Derby.

While I am very much looking forward to Sandhills being released because of connections I had to the railways up there years ago, it will be almost entirely passenger. Freight brings these sims to life and tests your powers of train regulation. And as I've mentioned elsewhere on this forum, because of the greater amount of freight traffic around way back when, I normally run heritage TT's in preference to modern TT's, which often have more trains but less variety of traffic/shunt moves, etc.

And there were a few alterations - nothing major, mostly a bit of plain lining, and the tram connections (albeit a little later).

OK with a bit of detective work and piecing the clues together, I've worked it out (and found the manual) but I won't spoil other's fun.

I wonder that as a new signal map has been updated in a manual but the link currently is broken if this is one of the sims that will be showcased tomorrow.... Of course there's always the risk that my sums are wrong....

I certainly have the energy. The slow loader update process takes even longer if your actually on a train xD. There is some signalling faliures to the south between bristol and bath and traffic around bournville.

It was announced that two of the three sims at the meet will be released very very soon as payware sims, they are West Yorkshire and Sheffield - the third one was Sandhills sadly there is no release date available for it but all three sims looks pretty good!

Sandhills and Sheffield has ARS however there is none for West Yorkshire that aside both Sheffield and West Yorkshire ought mean some awesome chaining sessions!

Hope that answers your quest?

I'm guessing Sheffield is similar to the old Sheffield sim that Kurt made (if memory serves me well?), or is this the new ROC layout?

And as for West Yorks... where would that cover?

Am sure all will be revealed in good time, anyway!

No idea on Staffordshire as there was no mention of it at the meet but like you I am looking very much to the release of the two sims.

I'm more keener to see Preston just so I can signal trains along the East Lancs :P

Anyway glad to be of service!

Sheffield is basically the same signalling but the quality of the sim is better taking into account the newer loader features. it is the current ROC layout including the tram train. it also features Barnsley and Woolley Coal Sdgs Signal boxes and no longer includes the hope valley.

West Yorkshire covers Ferrybridge, Castleford, Wakefield Kirkgate, Horbury Junction, Milford Junction, Cutsyke Jcn and Prince of Wales.

Sheffield I think is the new ROC layout as it now includes Sheffield Supertram running!

West Yorkshire covers a large area with one of the main stations being Wakefield Kirkgate
