London Bridge "Lite" 13/09/2019 at 18:27 #120387

There has been criticism of the London Bridge simulation being just too big, even with ARS. We are therefore wondering if next year we could produce a cut down version of London Bridge that would also be cheaper than the full simulation. People with licenses for the full simulation would also get the lite version for free (but not vice versa!). Please give your thoughts to one of these ideas:
1. Charing Cross to Metropolitan Junction (inclusive) (panel 1); trains would enter/exit at London Bridge. Probably no ARS.
2. Charing Cross and Cannon Street to London Bridge (exclusive) (panels 1 and 2).
3. Charing Cross and Cannon Street to Spa Road (exclusive; slightly simplified between London Bridge and Spa Road) (Panels 1, 2, and part of 3). Probably optional ARS.

Thanks.

If I can I would like to submit my choices in number order for consideration:

A. Charing Cross and Cannon Street to Spa Road (exclusive; slightly simplified between London Bridge and Spa Road) (Panels 1, 2, and part of 3). Probably optional ARS.

B. Charing Cross to Metropolitan Junction (inclusive) (panel 1); trains would enter/exit at London Bridge. Probably no ARS.

C. Charing Cross and Cannon Street to London Bridge (exclusive) (panels 1 and 2).

Can I just add that if people have offered criticism of London Bridge being too big even with ARS then I'm sure they will find Three Bridges even more of a challenge! Maybe it's time to put a advisory on the sims depending on the level of skill needed from Easy to Medium to Hard with London Bridge falling under Hard, Royston falling under Easy and Peterborough/Rugby falling under Medium?

Reason: Edited by GM to avoid confusion with re-use of same numbers in a different order

Option 3 would be my preference: it would be good for practice. However I like the larger sims so I am very much looking forward to the release, whenever that might be, of Three Bridges ASC.

I think option 3 would be my preference allowing control of the real meat and potatoes of all three stations without the approach tracks should be manageable and interesting.

I agree Option 3 would do well.

Thanks.

This categorisation already exists on this set of Wiki pages, which give summaries of each simulation: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack:areainfo

The ARS simulations are lumped into a fourth category of their own (except the very small ARS simulations like Leeds Ardsley, which are under Beginner), as the presence of ARS distorts the difficulty rating somewhat.

Option 3 would be my preference. Big and interesting, but not *too* big! An excellent idea.

With the busier ARS-equipped sims my operating method is to just turn off ARS on one or maybe two panels and operate them myself while leaving the rest of the sim to run under ARS albeit keeping a weather eye on the other panels, but as an option to potentially take full control of a given area without having to keep a weather eye on the remaining areas this sounds like a good idea, and Option 3 would be my choice.

Phil.

Instead of a cut down version, maybe a Sunday timetable might be more manageable.

There has been a Sunday TT but even that with ARS is hard to manage

That's a great idea. I think just having the 4 main terminals (CS, CX, LB HL and LL) would be good.

Geoff, Option 3 would be manageable with a normal service and would keep peoples interest up. You could produce a London Bridge Central(panel 8 & 9) which would be a manageable sim for one player under normal service.

I also quite like the idea of an option “4” - central side only.

To be clear, Positions 8 and 9?

Option 3 and possible Option 4 would be good.
If easy to do may need to consider that for Three Bridges too due to its size and complexity
I know people mention "just turn on ARS" and manually signal the bits you want but that doesn't work in a disruption scenario as ARS gets its knickers in a twist (as per real life) so makes it imposiible to manage
I like what was done with the Staffordshire sim where you could "switch out" the derby lines, I don't know if thats possible to do that with positions on the bigger sims, probably not but would be a great feature.

I like the sound of option 3. The other two seem a bit too small.

On a side note, if I’m finding a sim to be tough, I put it down to half speed, which allows you time to do twice as much and is therefore like having a second signaller!

For the mammoth sims, (London Bridge and by the sounds of it, Three Bridges), could a quarter speed be considered? Granted, it’ll take you a while to get through even just the morning peak, but would make these sims more accessible, even without ARS.

I would love to have panels 8 and 9 independently, and maybe panels 1,2,3 as well if panels 8 and 9 are too simple.

Just one question, Would the current London Bridge ASC simulation still be able to be used after the lite version is released?

Many thanks.

Whatever option is the final outcome I will hope that the full-size sim will continue to exist.
