We are now 4 weeks away from the meet at The Brewery Tap, Peterborough. This is just a reminder that if you wish to attend and have not already signed up, please visit the Event Page and add your name to the list.

If you have already signed up and find you are unable to attend, please revisit the Event Page and cancel your registration so we can keep track of how many people we are expecting to see.

Still intending to attend. As things stand I plan on making it a long weekend for photo'ing at a variety of locations, such as the searchlight signals at Clacton: other locations such as Swinderby, Sleaford area, Helpston and Ketton also on the list. The weather forecast for the weekend of the meet will have the final say in the length of the trip as to whether it is a one nighter or a four nighter.

During the current public health crisis we all need to be aware of the guidelines in regard to community events like the meet. At the time of writing there is no indication from the Government that events like the meet should not take place. With this in mind, the current plan is that the meet will go ahead as scheduled. However anyone planning to attend should be aware of the official guidance and put themselves into a seven-day self-isolation regime if they develop a high temperature or a new continuous cough. In those circumstances they should not attend the meet.

If you have already signed up to attend the meet then find that you are unable (or just do not wish) to attend, could you please go to the Registration Page for the meet and cancel your registration.

Further information will be posted here if there is any change to the guidance for those wishing to attend.

Things are moving fast in the current crisis and the Prime Minister has just conducted a press conference where he advised that people should only travel if it is essential and that people should avoid pubs, clubs and theatres. These measures may be in force for some weeks.

Unfortunately that means that we have no choice but to cancel the meet due to be held at Peterborough on Saturday 28th. March. Although this is an unwelcome turn of events, I hope that all those who had been planning to attend understand the reasons and can accept that the meet had to be cancelled.

We are still planning to meet up in July in Edinburgh. The sign-up sheet for that event will be opened in due course so keep your eyes open for an announcement about that.

If you bought the tickets through LNER, they have relaxed their usual rules and are giving full refunds. The advice from LNER is to go to the booking in your online account to submit a request with the reason 'Other' then state Covid19 in the text box (even with Advance tickets). I have just been granted a full refund for the round trip on Advance Tickets from Alnmouth to Peterborough, all done through the website and confirmed within 5 minutes of putting in the claim.

Booked it from my local TL ticket office so not sure on what they're doing, ideally I still like to travel but to leave on a much earlier train then prebooked.

Of course i have the same but nearly £40 on a tight budget. Mine were through XC and all they will do currently is rearange to another date/time for free.
At the moment all I can plan is to travel then watch the movements for the afternoon till my trip home.

I'd really be prepared for a very very limited service. TOCs are amending their refund policies temporarily. IF you really do not need to travel, then don't.

Personally I would take a financial hit for the health and wellbeing of myself and others.

Take the hit financially and stay at home, you no longer need to go to Peterborough, so don’t.

The way things are moving it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that people may find that they can claim a full refund on Advance Purchase tickets before Saturday comes around. Keep a look out for any announcements.

John Thanks for tipping the wink on that.

Earlier today I was in the process of cancelling hotels / moving flights and it was a painless process, no questions asked. Then you come to good old Blighty and the TOC's terms and conditions, to get fecked over because you have the foresight to buy an advance ticket.

Seriously, you younger guys need to think about your health first. As Mr Nelhams said take the hit on the advance ticket, I know I am.

To be honest, I think I'd rather just have the Wuhan flu and be done with it (hopefully).

In the meantime, I'm just trying to work out how many weeks of working from home I'd have to do to make it worthwhile cancelling my Season Ticket and restarting, not quite a simple as it sounds with the added complication of a price rise since I bought it.

Well I've taken the decision to get my travel tickets refunded not just because of the meet being cancelled but also due to a death in the family of a close friend I had arranged to meet up with.

In any case, travelling or not travelling I think in my currrent role there's a good chance of getting the virus in any case judging by the amount of used tissues one has to clear up after - note I do wear protective gloves!

And all this is being done in the interests of saving life. As the economically illiterate always say "You can't put a price on human life".

Now that we are being driven into recession and trillions of pounds/dollars/euros are being magicked into existence to pay for the consequences of that, how many thousands of lives will be lost in the next few years because there is no money left to pay for improved health care and health research? What is the price of those human lives?

And in the meantime, unless there is some magic bullet that can cure our ills, we face the prospect of being in lockdown until an effective vaccine can be produced. Without that palliative measure, any time you start loosening the shackles of the lockdown, you have no herd immunity and the outbreak just starts off all over again.

Be nice to see the fresh air again in 2022.

It looks as if LNER have now pulled the plug and are offering e-vouchers for future travel rather than cash refunds for unwanted Advance Purchase tickets. Still better than no refund!

Depending on exactly what happens on the day Condition of Carriage 30 may be invokable - right to a refund on all tickets without penalty if the train is cancelled or delayed

Quote:
30.1. If the train you intended to use is cancelled, delayed, or your reservation
will not be honoured, and you decide not to travel, you may return the unused
Ticket to the original retailer or Train Company from whom it was purchased,
where you will be given a full refund with no administration fee being charged.
This Condition applies to all Tickets, including Tickets (such as Advance Tickets)
that are otherwise non-refundable, and also applies if you have begun your
journey but are unable to complete it due to delay or cancellations and return to
your point of origin.
There is no definition of "delay" so I'd argue that 1 minute is literally covered.
I have mentioned this in passing in an argument I've had with ATOC and GTR over deciding not to travel on a season ticket but it was not directly relevant to the specific point so was not addressed.

Actually it was reasonably straight forward in the end and the answer I got was about 10 calendar days.
