Denmark - possible? 28/05/2020 at 22:18 #127198

Hello people!

I saw the topic of Denmark has been discussed before, however that is some years ago, making me believe this "idea" was given up on unfortunately.

However! I would be willing to help with reviving the project, providing any information needed. My own access is slightly restricted, but I do have close connections in the industry who I am sure would be willing to help out with any details needed for the projects.

Of course, diving into a completely new area will come with a few problems and issues on the way. Now I don't know the very technical details behind a simulation, but obviously with a new country comes a new signalling system. Despite looking very different, the foundations will actually seem quite similar when you look at the very basics! One thing different is that different types of signals will show different kinds of aspects, but have the same meaning. Apart from this, on the real VICOS system, it will most of the time actually just show as a simplified common symbol.
Apart from that, the train number system consists of anything between 2 and 6 digits, and I don't know whether that is technically possible, with the number holds to date that can only hold 4 characters.

If there is any interest, I can try explaining a bit about the possibility for routes that can be made, with the specific unique details that would make the sims interesting.

Look forward to hearing anything from you all, be it an outruling, interest to hear more, or simply just general thoughts!

Firstly, different aspects and 6 character train IDs aren't a problem; we have the technology for that. Look at the Australian sims to see.

The big questions are access to data and understanding the system. By the latter, I mean things like what are the aspects in Danish signalling and how do they relate to each other - what are the aspect sequences that a driver or someone able to watch along the track would see? A lot of data is required to build a simulation. It's not just a diagram of the tracks. We'd need to know how long each track circuit is and the exact location of each signal. What the possible routes through the layout are and do they have overlaps; if so, where? Is there flank locking of points or flank protection, putting signals back to red if a train passes a different signal at danger. That sort of thing. For UK practice we'd need control tables and a scheme plan. Do you have (legitimate) access to the equivalent?

(Isn't there a wiki page with all this on?)

Looking into the Nordic countries would certainly be interesting. I would like this also and I know that another signalling simulation - has Denmark split into two.

I volunteer for the away team for European signals research.

Fully funded by SimSig, of course...

You'll need someone to go with you in case you get lost. I'll volunteer for this dangerous mission

I intend to live forever. So far so good

The best way to get to Denmark is through Germany, so you'll need someone who speaks the native tongue - I'm happy to volunteer for this arduous task

No more Harwich - Esbjerg for a through train from the quayside (via trainferry) to Kobenhavn these days.

You'll also need someone that understands Danish and Swedish. Det är jag.

So I see something actually happened a few months back, and did not see this until now. So I am sorry, but I will use the opportunity to revive the topic ;)

I just checked out the demo of the Moss Vale simulation, and it was like a whole new world to me! Especially the function for stacking of routes was very interesting to see, as this is also used a lot in Denmark.

I would without a doubt be able to help with that part. If needed, I'd be able to talk to you about the Danish systems in case that's makes a difference. Additionally there's documentation available online (in Danish of course).

The geographic data of tracks and signals is open data. The control tables are limited, however I am quite confident I will be able to access these. It is not something I have sought for as of yet, simply because I didn't know whether it would make sense to or not. But judging by your reply, the possibilities seem very promising!

Again, I'd have no problem with having a chat with anyone from the team and explain some of the stuff mentioned above if desired. At least now I have voiced the offer
