If I remember correctly, it was a paged sim beta released some years ago, and then subsequently withdrawn.

Every time someone asks this question, they put the release date for the relevant sim back by a month, just to taunt you.

Perhaps not such a bad idea!

That section would surely contain an interesting set of postings.

First posting of each topic "When will such-and-such a sim be ready?"
Second posting "It'll be ready when it's ready".

End of topic.

Only messing about, fella, I too look forward to the day when Croydon gets re released.

No harm in asking, just don't expect a positive response.

Topics would probably be quite short.

Posting #1: "When will such-and-such a sim be ready?"
Posting #2: "It'll be ready when it's ready".

End of topic.

Actually, recalled earlier today at-least one reason why I would still like to see East Croydon (Three Bridges North) released. The reason would be that I could recreate the time I was waiting at East Croydon on, I believe, Platform 5 for, probably, 1E48 (the 16:33 Uckfield - London Bridge) and the signaller/signalman had for some unknown reason set a route for a non-existent Down Train off (or possibly through) Platform 5, before cancelling it and setting the route off the platform the Up direction instead. Recall this well as I was not far away from the banner repeater for the Down signal when I noticed it going to 'off'.

I don't want to sound all heavy about this, but there are some terms and conditions attached to SimSig software which are laid out here.

Under the terms of the licence to which anyone must agree before they can download any software from this site, it is not permitted to copy the software and pass it on to someone else unless at the same time you destroy any remaining copies on your own machine. If anyone does wish to pass a copy on to Jimgos, they must remove any copy from their own machine and also get an agreement from Jimgos that he will also be bound by the terms and conditions of the licence.

Though that licence only applies to current downloads, East Croydon was released years ago and IIRC isn't under the same wording.

Happy to stand corrected.

The Croydon beta .exe is dated 28/01/07 on my system. A 2004 download of the web-site includes "The only case where SimSig files may be transferred is from private individual to private individual where no charge, fee, or profit is levied. This does NOT include file sharing mechanisms like, but not restricted to, Kazaa. Basically, by all means email a friend with the program, but don't stick it somewhere where anybody can pick it up."

I haven't found an archived version from 2005 and 2006/7/8 archived versions of the site have no information about licensing. Again I haven't found an archived versions from 2009/10. The first of the archived versions of the site I can find with the current licensing agreement is dated 2011.

Sounds like I might of been on duty and trying to second guess my colleagues next move, then watching them change their mind. Either that or suddenly realising that the up train was booked 1st lol.

On our simplifiers for Panel 1B it has its first recording point as Windmill Bridge Junction for all down direction trains, Sanderstead on Up East Grinstead line, South Croydon Junction for the up slow line and East Croydon for the Up Fast Line. So there is a lot of guess work and judgement calls when it come to signalling trains through East Croydon.

You only know when a train is on time or not (in the down direction) when it passes the first regulating point, which is not much help when your first controlled signals (in fact your first signals) are at your first regulating point. Even worse when the signals next in rear to them on either of the converging routes protect other facing junction that are controlled by other signallers on adjacent panels. The signallers on Panel 1a (Norwood Junction), Panel 1c (Selhurst/West Croydon and Panel 1b (Windmill Bridge Junction/East Croydon/South Croydon) have to work pretty closely each other and need a good understanding how each other works.

We have a lot of swinging overlaps where the route is set on one panel and ends through points on the adjacent panel which creates huge potential for COAs if both signallers set routes through those points with in seconds of each other. So all in all great fun.

On the subject of platforming decisions made at Three Bridges box, I frequently catch either the 0745 or 0754 south from Purley, both of which are semi regular platform changes for no obvious reason. This should get extra penalties if the sim ever gets released as the only entrances to platform 2 are at the far ends of the platform and the stopping point is in the middle of the platform. Meaning about a hundred and fifty people have to run across and sprint round for each train!

Cheers for that very informative post there 'dabbadaz'!

On the subject of the simulation itself, digging up some old subscription eMails (always knew keeping them would be worthwhile at some point!) seems to show mentions of it actually being released as a demo, not a beta (I believe they are considered two different things(?)), on the old site; when the previous hosting company was 'dropped' by SimSig for whatever reason, they still hadn't taken down everything (or something like that) and the demo was still available to download from a now-finally-dead link. One of the aforementioned subscription eMails seems mention that it was then decided not to re-release the demo, as the simulation is currently being worked on. It was also mentioned, seemingly in response to someone who was pleading for it's release, that by re-releasing it, you may end up with multiple versions of the manual, which is not something that was wanted.

Happy to provide quotes from the these eMails, if requested.
(I don't believe you will find any threads on this current forum with these posts in them).

Looking at our simplifiers for Panel 2 both 2B29 to Tonbridge and 2C49 to Horsham appear to be problem trains at Purley. Looking at the work load for that time of day it appears to be quite heavy with eyes going everywhere. I think if my memory serves me right, in the old timetable the Tonbridge service would of gone Dn Fast to Dn Redhill at Stoats Nest Jcn and the Horsham used to come down the slow line. But I could be wrong as you soon forget some aspects of the old timetables while others stick in your mind.

Sounds about right for the 2B29, when I was driving at Tonbridge that used to be our one almost regular booked run our of platform 3 at East Croydon then down the fast to Stoats and hope the panel 3 chap or chapess hadn't mistaken you for a down Brighton and tried to send you via the Quarry.
