Nicholas,

From what I can see from the source code the DISPLAYED top image is a jpg called (sequentially) 1.jpg, 2.jpg etc.

To create that jpg needs a base picture then the SimSig logo superimposed on it.

Then the final image saved and posted as a jpg sized 957 x 170 pixels.

Geoff will then select the best and stick them on the server for it to select them at random from the 1,2,3,4, etc to put at the top of the screen.

So it is the main background that is being sought... if you can put the SimSig logo on in an appropriate place even better, just not near the current white writing on the bottom left which is superimposed by the software at present.

Regards,
Ken

Here goes a sample jpg image (947 x 170) I got the size wrong and the photo is NOT railway related (except that a rather serious train fan works there :=D:=D:=D) - It's one of the schools I work at.

This is originally a BMP file (converted to JPG) and I overlayed the logo with Fireworks.

Nicholas

Thanks Nicholas,

that test shows many things - not least that the attachments ARE now working!

That seems to be exactly what is wanted - a base picture plus the SimSig transparent logo then saved as a JPEG.

Now the difficult bit - find a rail related picture!

Ken, you're welcome.

I've got to dig up some old photos of mine (the printed kind) of when I lived in Buenos Aires and travelled around to see what I can find related to signalling (unfortunately where I live now there's no railways near - except the Old Patagonian Express).

If you need I can do the composing of the pictures for you (or anyone else that wishes to contribute to the "picture" pool). If you wish to send me anything to compose, please email the pic to

roberts1706 (at) yahoo (dot) com (dot) ar

I'll then convert it and send it back (it's then up to the original sender if they wish to put it up for consideration for the website).

Regards,

NR

As it didn't work Nicholas, can you explain how you got your picture into your message - step by step please.

I'm getting an error message when I submit my attachment in either png or jpg
Warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: ".tpl" in /home/SimSig/public_html/components/com_agora/include/smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1092

Ken:

First you must choose the "reply" option to a message since otherwise the attachments option doesn't appear to be available (maybe this is a configurable setting - Peter?)

Then Click on "Attachments" which appears below the Character count just below the message area.

In the popup window use "Examine" (I'm guessing since in Spanish it says "Examinar"and navigate to the file you wish to upload to the server (this is the first step - uploading it to the www.SimSig.co.uk server).

Then click "Submit"

After a (relatively) short time the file will have been uploaded and will appear in this floating window below where you entered the name and clicked "Submit".

Here's the rub, you must then click the "Insert" button which appears to the right of the image or file to put it in your message. It will be inserted wherever the edit cursor was in the message text. Once finished "inserting" the files or images in the message close the window with the little X at the top right (of the floating window!).

If the file you uploaded and inserted is one which is recognized as web-viewable it should appear directly in your message. If not you should get a clickable link to the file. What constitues web-viewable is a matter of uncertainty as I don't know it this is configured in Agora (the forum software) or if it is "fixed".

After this rather long-winded explanation the error appears to be related to a template engine called (guess it) Smarty. I would suggest you try again in case it happened to be a fluke.

This template engine is (I'm supposing) what gives the forum it current "look". As far as I can gather there would appear to be something which might need checking in the configuration files of the forum. I don't however have access to check this out. Maybe one of the admins can.

Nicholas

Further to the previous post there *may* be an error in a configuration file.

I found the following which could be of some use to the admins if this error comes up again:

Ken,

Could you try uploading again (if possible following my instructions) to see if it was a fluke or if there might me another issue? If possible it would probably be useful to know what Operating System you're using: WinXp, Vista (Ugh!), or whatever and what internet browser and version (i.e. Firefox 3.5.5)

Thanks,

NR

Second try - there is one step in yours I didn't notice - the Insert!

The Examine option is Browse in English versions.

Here goes...

That seems better - the problem is the Insert/Delete buttons are not visible in the Preview screen without scrolling it!

Thanks for that.

Whoo whoo....

Ken

Now that it works - the error message was almost certainly because there was no file URL in the message! At least others will now know what to look out for! Many thanks once again.

Now for another problem! The image displayed is Agora's PNG version of the JPG file we upload, reformatted to 532 x 100 so that it fits in the message box. Great for viewing but no good for Geoff to upload to the server!

Just found he should be able to access it at
http://www.SimSig.co.uk/components/com_agora/img/members/125/tornado3.jpg

All part of the learning curve... ;)

I was bored this morning looking after kids, so I've knocked up an svg that looks very similar to the gif logo attached at the beginning. Useful to anyone?

Actually what I can see in your previous post is a JPG file (and if I download it, I get a Jpeg file).

Hmmm,

so you might think but I believe it is all in the internal workings of Agora to give that impression. The image displayed is what they call a mini version of the JPG but they put the link to the correct image as a hotspot over the top of the PNG.

Subtle isn't it...

If you upload a photo look at the code generated that appears in your text section before you submit it. There are both the normal and a mini jpg HTML statements but when it displays the mini on the screen if you look at the title in the Tab (in Firefox) you see it is being displayed as a PNG version!

Just a warning - if you delete your version in the Upload section it goes from previous posts!

This might be a weird cache issue, but I've just noticed that when I'm logged in I see a nice Kings Cross montage at the top of the page; but when I'm not logged in, I see a default-looking mountain peak.

I think you have a % chance of seeing either in any view- there is a click point around the middle in the where you can alternate the view.

Actually the click point just directs you to the main page www.SimSig.co.uk/ which by loading once again has a % chance of loading each of the pictures.
