Hi

Now there is a new a version of Liverpool street which I might add I'm enjoying playing very much is there any chance of simulating the rest of the Liverpool street iecc area down to marks try being done. I have read the conflicts of interest on the wiki but as fenchurch street has been released I'm hoping you could do the same with the GE

I think I'm right in saying Fenchurch was initially created before Geoff was faced with the conflict of interest issue; likewise the original Didcot. That, presumably, is why the new Fenchurch is issued with a note about using old data - I imagine a decision was made not to do anything that might lead to conflict of interest issues arising.

Of course, if the data could be got (and if anyone was interested in creating the sim) the pre-IECC layout was fascinating, with several variations over the years (the 'Fenchurch Street Single Line' from Stratford to Bow Junction, for example, formerly linked to bays at the London end of the Electric Lines platforms, not to mention a major marshalling yard at Goodmayes although that had disappeared by the mid-1970s). There were an awful lot of signals though, with 4-aspect signalling still being a developing art and much use of 'closing up' signals to extract maximum capacity. A fascinating bit of railway, with four different kinds of panel in use (NX at Mile End, Bow Junction and Stratford, OCS at Goodmayes, Hybrid (IFS for signals and distant points, levers for nearby points) at Forest Gate Junction, Ilford (Station and Car Sheds), Chadwell Heath, Romford and beyond and 'Electric Cooker Switches' (I never did discover the technical term for the operating system) at Liverpool St and Bethnal Green. Add in overhead electrification (albeit 1500V DC) and the first widespread use of 5-light junction indicators and fully automatic train describers and I'd go so far as to say this was the first example of what we now think of as the modern railway.
