Hi all,

Firstly well done to Noel for this sim. That is now three sims which feature locations where my employers have depots: Parsonage Road (Horsham sim), Bath Road (Bristol sim) and Hitchin (Kings Cross sim). Only one missing is Wythenshawe (would be on a Manchester sim if there was one: not sure whether North, Picadilly or what).

I would make one very minor correction to Noel's excellent layout, specifically in the naming of a location. The level crossing at Crawley which is designated as "High Street" is, in fact, Brighton Road. Nice sim though, and not too hard to manage with just one player (at least not early on anyway: only got to 05:27 so far!)

Dave

Whilst you are correct in saying the LC is on Brighton Road, it is know as High Street as far as the railway is concerned, and referred to as such in the Sectional Appendix,

and on the panel.

Either Northenden Jct or Deansgate Junction signalbox. Neither particularly exciting (unless you really enjoy Level Crossings; the Deansgate Junction box controls two with a six minute Metrolink service plus Northern and the odd freight).

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

OK John: thanks for clearing that up. Perhaps High Street did at one time include the road over the Level Crossing in question. I had never been to Crawley and so assumed this was an error.

Cheers,
Dave

Just a note to say thanks for explaining it John, also Horsham is not "my" sim entirely. It actually started out with Matt Cooper and Andy Greenland and had been sitting on the shelf for a while when I built Dorking as my first sim. However, I felt Dorking was too small for a sim so suggested that Matt has it and merged it with Horsham. Matt however, whilst agreeing that it should be merged, passed Horsham over to me to merge and finish. So there yu go, I'm just one of three dev's involved in this one small sim!

Not that it matters if the road went over the crossing or not, Hull has 3 (4 if you're being pedantic) level crossings, only 1 of them is named after the actual road that goes over it.

Good call; I'd say the current sim is about the right size.

Crescent Road AHB LC near Birkdale station in Southport is actually on Eastbourne Road, which is also what the signalbox (closed in 1969) was called.

A nice retro picture there, as it it still has the old style axle counters pre Arun Valley extension.

Crawley level crossing is the boundary between Brighton Road and the High Street. Originally this was the A23 which has since been rerouted. The original Crawley station was here and I believe was entered from the High Street. The station was moved sometime in the 1960's to its present location. The platforms are all that is left of the original station. However, Crawley signal box (it still stands) is on the Brighton Road side of the crossing it was still in use after the station moved and was used up to Three Bridges took over . This no doubt why signal staff will refer to it as the Brighton Road.L.C. while we locals call it the High Street L.C.
