Hi, I'm Jake. I'm 24, from somewhere you've... actually got an outside chance of having heard of for a change: Wellingborough, to be exact, though I now live in Dorset.

Welcome to the forums Zaune/Jake. Yes I've heard of Wellingborough (in Northamptonshire, I think) - it is a hop, skip and a jump up the Midland Main Line for me (well, kinda).

I hope you find these forums as welcome as I did when I first joined towards the end of last year. Don't hesitate to start up a new thread somewhere appropriate if you have any questions, problems or difficulties with any simulation or timetable as I'm sure someone will be able to help you out. We've got our Summer 2010 meet coming up on July 24th in London - if you're thinking of joining us then that's great. The Peterborough meet on 20th March this year was my first SimSig meet and it was excellent and as you may expect, everyone was so friendly too. You can read peoples opinions of the meet in this thread and you'll also find my own 'report' of the meet in this post.

Don't forget if you fancy enjoying some friendly banter then there are a number of multiplayer games being hosted every couple of nights, now you're registered you'll see the "Notification of Hosting" area near the bottom of the forum, this is the area where all online multiplayer games will be announced in and when someone has announced it, check the date and starting time, then take a note of the provided IP Address and enter that into the appropriate box when connecting to the host of the multiplayer game.

I hope this helps and look forward to seeing you in a multiplayer game soon.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

Thanks for the big welcome. Wellingborough is indeed a Northamptonshire town, and used to be a fairly important depot back in the age of steam. It's now a mildly picturesque station served by a rather characterless procession of DMUs enlivened only by the occasional Shed-hauled aggregate train, and an attached town which manages the remarkable feat of making Luton look good by comparison.
I'll hold off on network play until I've got the hang of singleplayer, but thanks for the invite. And in the depressingly likely event of having no other pressing engagements on the 24th, I might just stop by.

Welcome to the Forum Jake. Re your thoughts on network games, it can really be the best way to learn and most hosts are happy to let you watch or control a small area when you feel ready. We tend to make lots of mistakes as well, so dont be put off.
