Train Length and Speed suggestion 13/07/2010 at 12:02 #1452

I've been playing Tony's strangely addictive Exeter '22 timetable, and due to the necessities of simulating double track over single track, ie swapping trains to get them to pass I've noticed 2 small things. If the two trains have different characteristics, using the Run to Another Timetable option doesn't change them to the new values. It's especially noticeable when you switch a freight train with a passenger train. When a train has a Next working, a different max speed is applied, but a different length is ignored. (I can't tell if the Accel is changed) Some of my trains are very short due to divides (7B05 is currently 8M ). I can't adjust them back up, as while there is always room for a shorter train, adding length is a bit more difficult. Length isn't really a big deal though. I understand that Run to Another Timetable is only really supposed to change the timetable and not the characteristics,

So, may I suggest 1 or 2 things to add to the Extreme Measures on the next round of updates?

1. To avoid needing to change any speed etc. something like 'Ghost' Train to temporarily turn off the Train In Front check to allow
a train to get by
2. Change the Adjust Length to Adjust Characteristics and allow changing of max speed, acceleration etc?
(Adjusting Length upward would be nice but probably too problematic)

Oh yes, while I have your attention, an option to StartLoad Paused and a slider to adjust the Train Early Running amount

At King's Cross sim, a different max speed is also ignored for next train workings. The arriving train has the speed of the departing train's type.

Hmm, I just did a test on KX with a max 125 train becoming a max 15 train when it arrived, The 125 got up to 65 before needing to stop then left at 15...
