Heard about this earlier today from both public sources and some 'industry insiders' I know personally - a tragic loss of a young life. Sadly, there has also been another one today near Basingstoke.

That said, I do wonder if there is a need to post up about this sort of incident. I have personally been quietly monitoring the situation and it [persons hit by trains] is something like 3-a-week on average so far this year so the amount of posts about these incidents if it was continued to be 'reported' here could reach silly levels, especially as some days there have been up to 3 in total if not more. I think 'guidance' from Geoff or Peter may be called for.

In the meantime could I remind everyone not to start speculating about this matter unless you actually know the facts for definite and you are allowed to publish them.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

Quite right.

I leave these until at least there is a Flag for RAIB investigating, and even then probably not till there report comes out.

This is my old stamping ground. Not a nice thing to happen, though I doubt anyone I knew will be involved after all this time.

Unless there are material inaccuracies in the report this is unlikely to be of railway interest, I suspect.

My greatest sympathies are with the driver of the train - and relief that no-one followed the deceased, or it could've been a multiple.
