I have downloaded the obsolete version of Swindon, which is an old favourite of mine which I personally prefer to Swindon A&B when it was available. It however will not install with Windows 7, I get a message saying the installer is not compatible with the version of windows I am running. Is there any way of getting it to work? Log in to reply |

One way is to try and run the installer in windows XP mode, but that only works if you have Windows 7 ultimate.

Actually, Windows XP mode is available on Windows 7 Professional and Enterprise as well as Ultimate, just not any flavour of the Home version. Alternatively, you could download virtual machine software and create yourself a virtual machine, onto which you could install Windows XP but you'd obviously need a full Windows XP installation CD to do this. Then install Swindon. Log in to reply |

I've loaded the old Swindon sim onto Windows 7(home premium 64 bit) by copying and pasting the files from a Windows XP Simsig program file folder into the Windows 7 x86 Simsig program file folder, I think you only actually need the sim and timetable folders as the others appear to be installer/remover files. You also need three Delphi runtime files - VCL40.BPL, VCLSMP40.BPL and VCLX40.BPL that can be downloaded from the net(google the file name) that are not included in Windows 7. These are placed in the Simsig program file. The sim will run direct from the sim folder but to save finding it every time you want to start a new game or continue one a shortcut can be placed on the desktop or pinned to the start menu. There will be no registry or startup entry due to the method of loading and to uninstall just delete the files. Stafford can be loaded the same way. I run mine on a widescreen laptop and had to deselect 'run in windowed mode' in options and select 'maintain aspect ratio' on the laptop screen settings to avoid it either appearing on a small window in the centre of the screen or stretching to full width.
