At the time of writing, those listed as online at the foot of the Home Page are:

58050, agilchrist, AndyG, Backup, DriverCurran, GeoffM, Hpotter, ipswich, Late Turn, markydh, Meld, mognuts, Noisynoel, northroad, nroberts, Peter Bennet, postal, Sacro, Sam Tugwell, Splatter, svrdan, thecabbagedetective, UKTrainMan, urbanfox, y10g9

If I go to the SimSig - potential buyer thread it shows one other registered user as viewing who is not included in the above list. Does the list on the Home Page include online users who are viewing specific topics?

At the risk of this turning into another "this does not add-up" threads it does appear that the number count is 1 more than the list of members currently logged in.

At the moment it says 20 but I can only count 19 names.

If I click on a thread I get a subset of the "who's online" user list (in fact, only me viewing this particular thread).Just now, "who's online" showed 17 registered users and the forum stats showed the same. So maybe I'm not looking in the right place?

However, both Joomla and Kunena (and Agora for that matter) have a separate setting for the time a user is logged in (currently set to 45 minutes). I guess there is the possibility that they are up to a minute out of synch, possibly resulting in the differences? Is it really worth investigating any more?
