Living as I do in Blackpool I would be very happy with a NorthWest venue. The least travelling expense for me the better. But wherever is chosen I would try to make it there but please, please NOT south of London!

Nezza - have you looked at the sticky thread regarding "Meet Location Criteria" ? A fair few of those locations don't really fit in to those requirements.

I will draw everyone's attention to:

Quote:
Essential requirements:
a) close to main railway station, with direct/easy access from as many areas as possible
A fair few of the locations listed don't really fulfil that requirement. Travelling time from all corners of the UK (and airports for some SimSiggers) should be taken into account.

For example, Guildford is really only for those in the South East and the West (via Reading), and is a bit useless for those much further North whereas Birmingham is good for transport links to all over the country. By this logic, I consider Southampton to be an insane option. I don't think it's fair to pick a location that would limit the number of attendees due to travelling distance, time and cost.

Me and Daniel Wilson live in lincoln and i have never been to a meet yet and would love to. Im also sure that he would like a meet close to home.
Also its in the midlands (East) so its sort of in the middle for people down south, people up north and in the east/west
I also know two people from cleethorpes - im sure they would love a lincoln meet , as they went to london for this last one

Thanks , Kyle

Also i forgot to add :
Lincoln's Services are roughley as follows:
Leicester - Lincoln (via nottingham) and return - hourly
Lincoln - Grimsby and return - every other hour
Lincoln - Sheffield and return - hourly (also calls at doncaster - service to sheffield/scunthorpe/hull/adwick)
Lincoln - Peterborough and return - every other hour
Lincoln - Newark North Gate - Depends on time of day - hourly or other hourly but i must say they have very good connections with East Coast trains from Newark for the south and the north.
Lincoln - Doncaster Direct are also avalible - only 3 or 4 a day so most likely if your heading back that way to get the **27 ish northern rail service to Sheffield/adwick/hull

Thing is with Lincoln is that it's essentially adding extra time to a journey from around the country. To get there, you have to go via, say Doncaster, Nottingham or Sheffield. All of these have much better transport links to locations across the country and therefore would be better locations for a meet.

It's much easier for people from Lincoln to get the the locations listed above than it is for people who have travelled a long way having to change again for a relatively infrequent service to Lincoln.

I do see the point your making.
Althought most trains at lincoln do connect pretty well with trains from other places.
Thanks anyway

This may sound dodgey and funny but here goes:
At a very Quick 3 min walk from the station is macdonalds - has wifi- has a large room for things like this upstairs i think, If not there is a resturant called Jaydees at a 4-5 mins walk away from the station - it is next to a wilko's haha. That also has a venue room.

I have taken what you have stated into consideration...

What I will do is carry on and hope others can keep the update with transport arrangements. All items that are suggested are from SimSiggers especially for the south as it is believed they are forgotten about

No more so than SimSiggers from Scotland, Wales or the North West.

Hull really isn't suitable, although there are some nice places to go, stay and eat, you can only get there from Doncaster/Leeds/York, so those 3 would be far better suggestions.

I have no real problem with it being off the main routes as long as I can get there within a reasonable time.

For me Derby is a pain to get to, for others its not so I dont think anything should be off the table unless its a ridiculous amount of time from one of the main lines. You can go from London to Edinburgh in 4 hours, it takes me 3hr 10 to get to Derby which is not even half the distance.

Sheffield Tap should be considered if they get the permission to expand as it would be impractical in its current setup, but I am sure there are other places just as good.

Definitely agree that meet location needs to be accessible for as many as possible. When I heard locations such as Eastleigh and Guildford mentioned I actually objected to those locations due to access for people from the north, generally involving a cross-London transfer which probably isn't ideal for anyone say north of say Peterborough unless they're making a weekend of it. I'm thinking locations should ideally be north or west of London as they're surely accessible for more people than anywhere south or east of London is.

Someone forgetting First Hull Trains? OK they may be having (or have had) a few troubles lately, but they do run KingsX - Hull....

I am sure we could find something else in Sheffield and still use Tap just to get drunk

The implication of this posting is that nearly everyone wishing to attend has an additional hour at least of travelling time on top of their journey on one of the main transport arteries (and then another hour at least on the return). Unfortunately, I don't think places like Hull (and Inverness and Penzance and Fishguard and Great Yarmouth) are viable for SimSig meets as the additional travelling time to reach them would force most people into at least one (if not two) overnight stays which a lot of budgets will not stand. Realistically, we are forced into somewhere in the rectangle bounded by Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff/Bristol and London (and many would claim that Manchester and York should replace Edinburgh and Glasgow).

Yes Sheffield is well worth looking into and sampling as another pub has been suggested with thanks to Joe (JC29). On the overall subject we must all remember that what ever happens we will always get some people not able to make the meets (take those who live abroad). The original discussion started at the point that some areas were missed such as South and North West along with Scotland and Wales
