To supplement my galley of signalling pictures I have recently created one for some of my overseas travels by rail which may be of interest. http://andrewsrailwaypictures.fotopic.net/ I can really recommend travelling from Moscow to Beijing by train, although I suggest stop-offs in Siberia (Irkutsk and Lake Baikal) and Mongolia as anybody we met who has been on for all 7-8 days was going a bit stir crazy! As it was the first leg to Irkutsk is about 5,000 km, 5 nights and several time zones! Not too much of signalling interest I'm afraid and while I'd have loved to pop my head around the door I didn't fancy getting left behind in the middle of nowhere! http://andrewsrailwaypictures.fotopic.net/p67601926.html Log in to reply |

Highly recommended and while not cheap using the normal service trains is a lot cheaper than the special trains you see advertised. If I ever make it to a meet then I'll be pleased to provide some hints and tips. Log in to reply |

Andrew The Man in Seat 61 has a very good page about booking and travelling on the Trans-Siberian routes (Moscow to Vladivostok or Beijing) on his web-site. It makes interesting reading (and also suggests how to get to Moscow in the first place and where to go from Vladivostok). Pages like that are nearly as interesting as the holiday!
